As reductionist as this is, most people go to work for a paycheck and if the money is no longer worth the hassle of the job they leave it. Others do their job for fulfillment/experience and don’t really care about the money. You need to evaluate where you fall on the spectrum of this when asking for compensation in this situation.
In my opinion, if you are leaving a job that you care about the success of it is completely reasonable to ask for increased pay to train the next manager prior to exiting. You’re time and experience is valuable and if a company is unwilling to compensate you for your expertise then they will “pay” for it when you leave by having the buisness struggle.
Exit plan bonuses can sometimes be negotiated as part of a separation agreement when an employee is leaving a company. The purpose of an exit plan bonus is to incentivize an employee to stay on board long enough to ensure a smooth transition for their replacement and to minimize disruption to the company's operations.
That is exactly what I am looking for!
Never heard of that before. Sounds like a threat to the company that you're thinking of leaving. Lol.
How can you guarantee them that you won't leave after you get the bonus? Maybe partial bonuses throughout the period to get you the full amount until your full stay?
It's not really an exit plan bonus. It's a retention bonus, and yes, it's a thing. But it ultimately depends on how valuable you are to the company you work for and/or how desperate they are to keep you. If you're not interested in staying, then your compensation would be continuing to receive your paycheck while you train your replacement and serve your notice period. I've never heard of a company paying a bonus for this.
