Planning on exiting BCG for B4. Is this a wise move? Better TC, better WLB but less interesting work. Advice appreciated.

It’s not going to be better wlb I can guarantee that

Eh

I wouldn’t, it’s a downgrade resume wise no matter how you spin it. But if you’re happy, and it allows you to have a better WLB, that’s what matters. But I would rather exit to industry and really leverage the BCG brand to land a solid role, with even better comp and WLB than what a b4 can offer. Plus I doubt WLB will be that much better, and no one can guarantee you WLB unless you’re taking an internal role.

like

Not necessarily. Could be easier for them to accelerate their career at B4 and reach senior partner levels than at BCG. There are more things to factor than prestige. They also already have the BCG on the CV so doesn’t matter

like

Your TC is going up? Are you sure you read the offer letter properly? In any case, your TC trajectory is a lot better at BCG even if there is a 1 year blip of B4 being better in the offer letter.

I think your choice of B4 is crucial here. I’ve heard D WLB is terrible so would avoid.

like

OP very curious what position your are going in to and from what position at BCG? I’ve spoken to some folks who have jumped over as a Partner and love it (much better WLB, money doesn’t matter at that point as Partners are making a ton). I say this because depending on your current position, could be worth waiting it out a few more years.

like

I’d do it and have been considering it myself. I’m just waiting for the right time. The autonomy you get at Big4 compared to the hierarchy at bcg is great. WLB depends but overall definitely. And partners definitely live a good life compared to MBB

like

B2 what position are you now?

I think that’s a good move tbh. If it makes you happier (in life, not just professionally) and gets you more money then always take it.

like

Don’t do it unless your coming in as a partner

like

I don’t think WLB is better at B4. Everything I hear it is the same or worse. Maybe better as a proven Partner with a solid book of business with several long term clients

like

At what level? What industry / type of work are you going to do there? Why are you considering leaving BCG? These will be a big factor on whether it is a wise move

Unless you’re a direct entry partner I would absolutely not make this move. Wlb is pretty atrocious throughout the big 4. If it’s wlb you’re after then my advice would be industry or take a sabbatical and reset. If it’s comp then bcg’s comp curve is more attractive over the long run unless you’re particularly interested in the big 4 pension but even that may be a wash with bcg (not sure of the details on partner retirement). Just my two cents from somebody who’s been in several big 4 and tier 2 strategy shops.

Need more detail. Which B4? What practice? What level? What group were you in and what level at BCG? This will inform whether WLB will be better and if this is a smart decision.

Who said it is better TC and WLB?🤔

Need ethics/moral help from my fellow 🐟 I got laid off from ACN earlier this year. I accepted an offer and started at a boutique consulting firm exactly one month ago today. This morning, I got an email from Deloitte recruiting for the same position I’m in now, which is where I want to develop my career. Part of me wants a break from the big consulting firms, but at the same time, going to a Big 4 would feel more at home to me. Is it worth entertaining the offer, or should I just stay away?

Currently a PhD at a M7. Veteran, and obviously used to be at EY. Currently in qualifying phase and starting to looking to post-PhD life. How do the firms differ in how they treat advanced degrees (ie stick to PhD area or are you a generalist)? How do federal vs commercial practices differ when recruiting advanced degrees? I recognize that there might be a pay differential (pay isn’t important, I don’t want to go back to B4 due to tax/consulting dichotomy), just would be great to be federal.

I'm a young analyst in ACN with 1+ year of experience in cloud migrations. I've received a very good job offer by another Big 4 in the same sector and service but with better career growth opportunities. I don't like to work in cloud service and also I don't like the banking sector. For this reason, I requested to be moved in another service in ACN. My manager said ok, but this probably takes several months. Next monday I have to provide a feedback to the other company. What would you do?
