Expecting promotion 12-1. $160k. Interviewed w/company that isn’t great but they want to give me an offer. I said $200k min base, Pittsburgh. Thought it was a crazy number but they might be desperate

I made the same decision as well 4 years ago. Doing well with current firm but a small boutique firm was willing to pay 50k boost in salary and a promotion. Eventually I decided to stay with just half the increase, and took 2.5 years to catch up on what was offered. Looking back, I didn’t regret my decision because what I was able to achieve in these past years with the current firm. If I were to move, I’d make more money but I’d be doing the same thing all these years without a much learning opportunity and the team/mentors that I have here. In the end, it’s all about what you want more out of, and money isn’t the only factor to decide. And when you are making 160-200k a year, it’s just about $1k salary increase after all those taxes. At that point, I looked for my career growth in learning rather than $$$ because for me, I don’t think making more money will make me happier anyway.

If so, is that good enough to move to? Health industry. Not exciting work. Would be working for the pay check. Below average company.

^^^ that is the answer that needs to be copied and pasted to every question like that.... Ultimately these decisions in situations like this come down to do you want to learn and advance or take the money and slow down

M1, a 50k increase for you is 1k post tax? Did I read that correctly?

like

@D2.. 25k-ish is around 1k post tax. Not 50k

You don’t sound very excited about the job. Are you excited about ACN? $160k is strategy M base so I assume you’ll enter management, which could be a change

Arrow Icon

That's a crazy good salary in Pittsburgh.

How do you make sure you find an industry job that comes with the raise you want (within reason) without having to work more than 45 hours a week? One of my clients emails me at 10pm somewhat regularly. Another never leaves/logs off before 9pm for 5 weeks between quarter end and release of the 10-Q. I’d rather stay at B4 with our 6 weeks of time off per year (PTO + summer and winter breaks) rather than go to an industry job with regular long hours and half the PTO. Thoughts?

Facing an interesting dilemma about compensation vs title and looking for advice. I am currently a Senior Manager in the industry (work in Financial Systems). I recently got an offer for a Senior Business Analyst role (total compensation of $250K) in the same city - my current comp is $170K. The role is a major step down in title and responsibilities but gives me almost 50% increase in TC. The only reason interviewed at all is the TC.

I just left BigLaw as a mid-level for a generalist in-house role. It took me over a year of searching because I was a litigator in a niche practice, so most companies didn’t want me. My focus in the new role is developing general skills - contracts, transactions, partnerships, IP, etc. - but I don’t want to stay at this company for long, because the pay is subpar for an in-house role at my seniority. What’s the minimum amount of time I can stay before reasonably applying to other in-house roles?

Asking for advice (work at pwc), I was promoted mid year to manager and a few months later Covid... I’m very thankful to have a job but given the pandemic the pay bump was nothing to be excited about. With the way things are going, I am anticipating no pay raise next year. I’m being paid as a 4th year senior and trying to wrap my head around if it’s my time to leave the firm and go to another firm for more $$. I don’t work an insane amount of hours but not getting paid for my worth.

I just found out that an associate (same experience level) who billed fewer hours than me and had less collections got a 10k raise while I only got a 2.5K raise. She is in a different office, and her supervising partner is incredibly nice and understanding. My supervising partner is a total dick to everyone (not just me) and I got shafted. He obviously didn’t speak up for me at review. I feel like this is totally unfair and like I got overlooked. What do I do?

Looking at a corporate strategy team @ a F500 fintech company in a MCOL city. 4 others who are currently in the role are ex Tier 2 (OW,EPY, S&) w/ 3-4 YOE. However, recruiter (who is 3rd party) quoted up front that total comp is 150K and most likely not very negotiable. This just feels odd because knowing the comp that T2 firms pay, the other folks must have taken at least a 15% pay cut. Is it common for people to take a cut that big this early on?
