Go read "The Pyramid Principle" by Barbara Minto. It'll teach you the structure for storytelling that execs love.
Slides will become easier to make because you'll know what part of the story they're trying to tell; then content will become easier to generate because you'll already know what you want to say.
Following the pyramid principle, if you can't make an outline of what the story is...you're simply not knowledgeable enough of what purpose the deck is serving. Deck making is hardest when you don't know why you're making it.
A great recommendation.
I sucked when I started. Best advice is to spend way more time on it than you ever thought imaginable lol. Seriously, agonize over every image and approach it like a perfectionist. Also collect and repurpose as many decks as you can.
Pro
From a content perspective, or from a visually appealing perspective?
I suck at making pretty slides, so I typically just re-use old decks from teams channels, old sharepoint links, etc, and just tweak them for my specific decks
Watch YouTube tutorials for tips.
No, it won't break your career.
I'm an experienced hire as well; I got better over time.
Learn how to tell a story. Keep your slides simple. Go to the KX and find slide decks that you like and re-use/leverage them visually to bring across your message.
Thank you all for all the great recommendations/suggestions. I’m going to get the book and apply the others.
@OP, am at Accenture too. Can help send you some slides templates to use. They really helped me on a strategy project. Also, you can find alot of resources on Accenture KX (knowledge exchange)
