Experienced what my therapist referred to as a mental relapse this week (risky/ impulsive behavior, quick to anger, feelings of fear/ anger lasting longer than normal). This ever happen to anyone? I didn’t drink but was acting like I use to.

Yes, this has happened to me many times. Therapy helps a lot

And yes, this has totally happened to me too, several times, and I think it’s a normal part of the recovery process.

Not sure how long you’ve been sober, but sometimes something (or a series of little somethings) sneakily pile up on the inside and we don’t account for the fact that we no longer have our (previously) preferred coping mechanism of drinking to lean on.

Depending on where you’re at, and how you’re getting sober, there are lots of tools in the toolbox to help settle back down after an “emotional blackout”. Expect an emotional hangover after all this too... The best tool, however, is proper daily maintenance, to catch those seemingly insignificant resentments and jealousies and unmet expectations, so you can accept them and release them the day or moment they arise.

Congrats on 90!!! That’s honestly a big one, or at least for me it was. Just know, that if you stick with the program (safe to assume you’re in AA?), the severity and frequency of these mental binges can go down if you continue to do the work.

I spent a lifetime ruining my brain and body and emotions...it’s gonna take more than a few months before I even know what equilibrium feels like. I just had to give it time and work for patience. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.

I had days writhing on the floor fighting my brain/ego, and nights where I wake up at 3am and the hamster is like “F yeah we’re about to sprint on this MF’in wheel!”, and tears and anger and what I thought was heartbreak, and every other emotion in the book.

After three years, I’ve learned to recognize that those emotional outbursts aren’t me; they’re Fear exciting my inflated but fragile ego. Some breathing, and focus, and relaxation typically reminds me that everything is ok. “In the now” I have no real problems. And Im at my best when I’m being of service to someone else.

Finally, don’t forget about the impact of H.A.L.T., which stands for Hungry, Angry, Lonely, and Tired. When I start getting anxious or sensitive or annoyed, I gotta remember to check these 4 things first. Never make a decision or trust your thinking when you’re impacted by HALT; pause (aka Halt) instead. I also like to throw in Dehydrated and Sexually Frustrated. Drink some water and, um, take care of your needs too.

Check this episode of armchair expert. Opened my eyes big time on my sober behaviors even if I am abstinent and how they can affect my overall program. Happens to me all the time and often for me it’s the bigger danger than the substance itself (for me, food)

Was transfering Rx to my PCP under her guidance but my BP was high at my yearly (was a particularly stressful day at work, BP was normal the last 3 years). PCP won't coordinate care until I see a cardio. Anxious something will be wrong and I can't be treated for ADHD anymore 😩 anyone else here w/high BP?

Hi fishes I need some help here- I’m starting a new job and my first IVF cycle is scheduled to start the same month. So my question is, exactly how time-consuming would a cycle be? I want to let my managers know how it would affect my work without having to explain to everyone that I'm going through IVF.

Also for context, my clinic is 25 mins away from me.

My husband's been smoking for almost 15 years and can't stop. He tried vaping but didn't like various side effects. Any time I bring up him quitting he either ignores me and leaves the house to go smoke or gets angry, screams at me and says I'm not helping him. He did try patches and gum for a day and didn't like them. We've been together for 14 years and are thinking about having a baby. Should I just accept the fact that he will get cancer and die while putting me and our child through pain?
