I sat next to a guy like that on the flight home Thursday. Get to my seat and he's on the window side (2-wide seating BC it's a small plane, obviously) with the armrest up. I flipped the armrest down and it more or less rested on his thigh.

Thank you, @k1! @ba, literally almost the exact same situation...this gentleman in question though could definitely have fit both of his legs within his territory, he just choose not to and to have the thigh rest scenario instead.

This guy didn't have a choice because he was huge.

Pretend to fall asleep and start drooling on him. I'm talking puddle drool.

Aside from one time I asked to move to an empty seat, I've never felt the need to escalate beyond a traditional armrest battle.
