I went to India for Visa stamping and my Visa was issued last Thursday. However, vfs hasn’t returned my passport since and the status keeps showing ‘Origination Scan’. Their customer service is barely a service at all. They say they have no info on the passport. I graduated with my Ph.D. last year and have been in the US since 2013 (MS and then PhD). I’ve been in OPT since last year and recently got the STEM extension. Since I’ve passed 5 years on my F1 visa - I’m considered a resident alien for tax purposes. But since I’m still working on OPT and don’t pass the substantial presence test - am I exempt from FICA taxes?

I believe most of the people in the group here has the obligation to file form 8938( financial asset abroad). In which tax platform did you find easy to file tax return and the form together? I read that H&R doesn’t support and Turbo Tax seemed to have issue last year. Many thanks in advance!!
