Not sure about other places but at EY they are non equity partners. They're all lumped together as PPEDs -- partner/principal, executive director. Typically more focused on client delivery in 1-2 subject matters. They sell but not as much as Partners. They are salaried employees and are paid well. More recently some new hires come in as ED, prove their case, and are promoted to Partner in a few years. However, within the firm it's recognized as a destination role.
It depends. Are you a market facing ED or large scale delivery promo’s ED? In the market with a strong book you could snag/be on par with a Partner level role elsewhere. As an ED, you’re a non-equity Partner. You do the math.
Where are you Executive?
Accenture. Planning to get a referral through channels but unsure if that’s a Level in EY or a “Marketing Title”
ED Is not a marketing title. All the big 4 firms have a non equity partner position. Usually they have relationship with clients, known to be skilled on one area and capacity to bring revenues. What does an Accenture Executive do?
Also not considered an owner in the firm. So not quite a partner principal but still at the top.
ED is very similar level as Partner except they are employees not equity owners. Many of them run very substantial positions within their practice. I think it's likely that an EY ED will be a managing director at ACN (I worked for ACN for almost 10 years so familiar with their leveling), especially with a few years of experience at that level.
