Bill all your time and make your shitty manager bite the bullet. Your manager cowers in front of the partner too so just bcc the partner on the email when you say “What exactly do you mean when you say I should only bill 5 hours when I worked 9?”
It’s such a bs that I have to eat my hours just because the manger set 🥜budget. I told her that I have no problem going to HR if she kept pressuring me 😂
Partner BCC is a strong but risky move. I like it.
@ey5 not on a fixed fee engagement like most audits. Often times they are unwilling to extra bill.
What if partner told them team to eat hours?
YASSSS EY 2 🤘
And therein lies the risk.
Quote from our economics at EY challenge video: "make sure to review all tasks for possible elimination, and consider what work administrative resources can perform". If they want us to do that then they need to stop firing the freaking administrative resources. Just opening a code takes up a chunk of the budget.
All of the partners I work with genuinely take eating hours seriously so I would bring it up. Don’t mess up your utilization so your manager can brag about inflated engagement economics. Frankly it sounds like your manager either can’t budget or sucks at negotiating a fee so you shouldn’t suffer for his short comings.
I wouldn't bcc Partner. 100% talk to your people consultant tho. Normal caveat though that if you were chatting with 15 peers on lync all day your manager is not saying to eat your time - but more to charge what you worked
Savage
@ey5 or compliance. God, we basically give away compliance for free half the time
I have been with the firm for three years and I have not had a single engagement team that doesn’t want me to repeat on their engagements, in fact they’re racing to put hours on my schedule. I considered myself pretty efficient and I generally charge 80% of time by factoring in pinging people on Skype or water/coffee breaks. This manager is just out of her mind for giving me the unrealistic budget. I had my counselor and ED involved regarding this and they both agree the hours I charged are still more efficient compare to my peers. It’s insulting for her to approach me and questioning my hours when she only does the billing and not actually worked with me throughout the engagement!
Drop names, office. Who should we avoid
A partner rarely asks you to eat hours. Their pockets bulge more the more hours charged
How did it taste?
Manager asked me to do that my second month in PA and I went to my mentor and then the partner. She had to take back. If you really worked billable hours then speak up.
Charge the time fight back. The manager trying to cover up their mess... They honestly Should have been watching this budget weekly.
We are getting pressured to work 9am to 7pm and charge no more time than that... but the hours of work that needs to be done is almost double that amount. Not sure if we eat time or leave at 7pm like they say and continue WFH?!
Never eat time that is adding value to the client. This understates how we price future jobs. It hurts everyone including you. I would talk to my counselor to determine how to address it on the right channel. Don’t bcc partner, it will eventually get to him/her. The manager is overwhelmed, which is why they are not approaching this correctly. Charge all time, and if firm wants to make an investment, they will see it in the code.
