EY offer - 130k base Dallas, 9 years experience, Senior Advisory Current - Manager at Cognizant, 115k base, New Jersey. Is this offer good enough? Is there room to negotiate? Is yes, how to?

Just a few points. Texas will have a MUCH lower tax burden on you than NJ not to mention COL is much cheaper. EY sits higher in the hierarchy and will probably have access to more interesting work. You are paying 5k extra (at the same money) just in taxes to live in NJ. (Source: smart asset)

Which firms have sales targets for managers?

In my opinion, that’s a downgrade. You’re taking a step down from Manager to Senior, I would never do that even for more money. Why not apply for Manager roles versus jumping the gun and taking demotion? It also puts you further away from the next promotion. I’d stay and aim for a Manager role rather than taking the step down.

About a year ago I got an offer for 135 + 10k signing for Senior role at EY, also in Texas. If you’ve already gotten to the offer your best bet is just to come back and say something like “after consideration and market research I believe my skills match a higher comp because of [whatever]”. Be prepared for them to be like “lol, no”.

Overall New Jersey city is 44% more expensive than dallas texas as well. You have everything to gain by accepting. Median home cost is 100% more than dallas too

I guess that's the good thing with this move.

Take in consideration you will be paying close to 3% in property taxes every year in Dallas

Paying 2.4ish I think after the city, the school, the county, and the community college take their cuts

Why didn’t you fight for manager? That’s what you’re doing now. Offer is solid tho. Try to counter at 135-140 or ask to meet in the middle. One counter never hurts to try.

$130k for Senior 3 is good. We have changed our promotion cycle, so if you are performing at the M level you have a case for promotion in April. But most likely you’ll be promoted to M in Sep/Oct.

First make sure you are Senior 3. There are levels of Senior and it goes like Senior 1,2,3 then manager. Sometimes goes to S4 as well You should be accepting an offer less that S3 Now, for S3 in Dallas 130 is good but you can try for 135

Ya it is senior 3, asked them for 135. Waiting :/

No harm in trying for 135-140 but I would take it at 130. Factor in the benefits part too. I’m sure those will be better at EY especially PTO.

Benefits are mostly the same.
