It comes down to which practice or Group and the set of Partners you will be working with. From a high level both are almost similar in terms of reputation, exit opportunities. If you are in area of technology consulting, Deloitte is better. Its like comparing Kardashians! Some like all of them and many hate all of them.

I worked at both, and I’m in the healthcare space. In this industry Deloitte is light years ahead in terms of personnel, clients, and types of projects. Culture at EY was a little more hand holdy, which was kind of nice, but I wouldn’t say it’s that different. Higher burn work at Deloitte, however the work is more interesting, so it’s a balance.

They’re all the same.

Depends on what you want. Pay and expense policy? Deloitte. Culture? EY

like

PwC here.. It all depends on your practice team, just like in the other three

Deloitte is more well-known overall There’s no “better firm” it all depends on groups and locations, even comes down to project teams

No big 4 is that great, but there are great people I know in D. Hence it’s sometimes your luck to find the right folks 😅

Better projects - Deloitte. Better culture - EY.

Better projects but poorly executed

Deloitte is the better company with higher talent and it is far better managed.

HENNYTHING is better than Deloitte

funny

Having been at both Deloitte has better talent and client reputation in the industry. It is a tougher environment though culturally but depends what’s more important to you.

like

Yeah for me “tougher” is convo of more challenging projects, longer hours, and less handholding. For me, most of those were pluses, as I wasn’t fulfilled with what I was doing at EY. But as everyone has mentioned, it definitely comes down to what group you’re in.

Have a friend who went to both. She thought talent at EY was worse but it was easier for her. She tried to apply back at Deloitte but they said no

like

If D said no, sounds like her individual talent was the issue, not EY’s.

like

Completely depends. Ive had awesome growth strat projects in TMT S&A, but EY has some pretty nifty teams (EYP SSG). Not a fan of their unlimited pto though

Deloitte

EY - I thought my last 3 years were great in this engineering practice.. never had wlb issues.. great implementation engagements.. not everyone is skillful but those who knew stuff were great.

Well, from a shallow viewpoint, EY offered me 30K more than Deloitte so here I am. However through discussions and now experiences at EY, I would choose EY’s people culture hands down!

Does EY require the give back to the firm initiatives and eminence that Deloitte does? Always wondered this. It’s not so much the project work that hurts the wlb, it’s all the “extra” stuff we are required to do to make the firm better.

Yes every big 4 requires this

Any B4 partner on here care to explain how firms are having record years in revenue, while also cutting down on the massive travel expenses from past years, but still managed to take away bonuses, raises, and even some people’s job? Genuinely curious as to how this could possibly be justified.

Came across the concept of “cash envelope stuffing” on youtube. Seems like a pretty good concept to avoid overspending on each category of expenses. I am trying to get some ideas to incorporate this concept using multiple bank accounts/ cards. Where I allocate a set budgeted amount of money each month, to each bank account tagged for a specific category (groceries, vacation, emergency fund, etc). Is this something you have tried or have any ideas on how to go about it? Do you recommend this?

I am so conflicted about socializing during COVID. My friend invited me to a dinner with two new people (who work at the big 4) at an outdoor restaurant. Where I live, the COVID rate is ~3%. My friend invited the group chat and the two other girls shamed my friend for socializing in a small group during COVID. My friend group won’t agree to be in a pod and won’t meet unless everyone is 6 feet apart. It’s going to get cold soon and I feel like I’m going to be lonely if I don’t make new friends ☹️

I’m mid-level in my HR career at my current company and an upcoming Master’s graduate. Studying for my SHRM-CP too. How did you make the transition to that next level? What skills do you need, or is it really just based on YOE (I am the youngest compared to my teammates, many who have 10+ YOE)? I feel like career pathing is not very clear at my company. Each time I ask for guidance on this from my manager, I get told they’ll look into it.... would love some external mentorship and thoughts 🙏🏼
