If you want to transfer, it’s up to you to make it happen. It takes some elbow grease. Networking with the team you want to join and letting the right people know of your intent. I agree it’s probably easier to transfer externally. Simply asking your coach usually isn’t enough, esp rn since teams are understaffed, your coach/ partner are not going to bend over backwards to help you leave the team.
Source: am in the process of transferring. It’s been a 9 month process, and it’s still not a 100% done deal.
Jump to other firm. It’s better to exit now because the market is hot.
I just recently went through the process myself and I agree with D1, it’s up to you to make it happen. I reached out to a partner in the service line I wanted to get into and expressed interest in the work that they do. I told them my background, the skills I have and why I wanted to transfer. I asked for tips on skills and certifications that will help me break in. You have to know where you want to go just saying advisory or consulting is too broad. Find out where you want to be is step 1. Otherwise you could find yourself in another situation where you feel stuck in what you are doing. Step 2 is start networking. The more you do the easier it will be to transfer especially the more skills you lack that relate to the area you want to be in. Good luck.
I would be more firm in what you want and mention your consideration with recruiting outside of the firm. I kept getting my transferred pushed, did this and within a month I was transferred.
