Depends on the unicorn. More upside but more risk. If you believe in their upside....go for it.
Also, besides comp, the FAANG brand is likely more enduring on your resume. Someone said prestige is similar — maybe right now. But if the Unicorn stumbles, not really. For example, I remember when Groupon was the hot new unicorn. Not so much now!
Unicorn: similar level of prestige / brand recognition / pay with more exciting growth opportunities and oftentimes still has the startup feel.
FAANG I like security and am extremely risk averse

Unicorn
first time im hearing the term unicorn used outside of fairy tales. in the context of faang and startups, could someone explain what a unicorn is?
It’s basically a non-public tech “startup” valued at or above $1b
Definitely unicorn. Upside with IPO makes it super attractive. Also many are as prestigious and as difficult to get in.
SC1. Unicorn is typically a late stage startup with over $1B in valuation. They often IPO within a few years and there’s significant stock upside. Airbnb and DoorDash fit this bill last year. Right now some top ones are bytedance, stripe, databricks, etc.
