Leave You’re being set up to fail

I agree that you should leave, having previously worked at a company that didn’t particularly care about supporting their clients with regulatory compliance. That is not going to suddenly change in the next twelve months, and I think you have an easy explanation for why you are leaving.

like

yeah i agree. you should be about to explain that easily when reviewing your resume in the future. one of my close friends was similarly lied to and ended up just jumping back to her previous company in a much better position.

Into and is wanting to continue to ignore because it involves a complete overhaul of how their product is managed, including the back end firmware and software. I was not hired to modernize or overhaul their culture or security stance and, honestly, I'm not paid enough to want to do the fighting. I don't have the authority to make any decisions and I have to justify why I want the changes requested by the customer TO COMPLY with the regulations. Long story short, I like my coworkers and the benefits, but I kinda feel lied to about my role and how it was positioned. I've been here not quite 4 months and I have several people who I can reach out to and get a new job easily. I just hate giving up on something that I care about but I also don't need the additional stress. So my questions are A) should I talk to my new boss about my feelings in a non-judgmental way B) Should I try to stick it out to project completion (roughly 12 more months) C) if I leave, is 6 months too soon? (I usually stay 3-10 years in a position)

As others have said, cut your loses. Companies lie, which is not your fault. As an engineer you're not the right person to be having political battles and if the company doesn't make these changes the customer is likely to bail for the same compliance reasons. They will make you the scapegoat if that happens. Feel free to have a conversation with your boss, but at the end of the day they treated you with disrespect/didnt value you as a person before you walked in. You don't owe them any loyalty and they likely won't/can't help, which is why it's been dumped on you.

Have competing offers from EY and KPMG UK Economic advisory teams( Manager/Snr Exec level). KPMG's UK technical rep and comp offer is better, but the hours appear longer. EY UK Director has had several calls selling culture (diversity and work life balance). Is there actually a substantive emphasis on this by EY? Or are 50+ hour weeks quite common? I suspect it's going to be quite team dependent/ project dependent, and therefore a gamble in any case. Thanks for any perspectives.

Hey all, I’ve recently joined EY consulting from another Big 4 and have noticed there’s no discipline (at least in my team) around codes and charging time. People either charge a standard 7 hrs or some will charge time spent on internal activities to their client code. I was told that “the last person to charge their actual hours worked was promptly booted off the project”. Just wondering: 1) Is this a general cultural point accross all Consulting teams? Will challengin this get me in trouble?
