Fastest way to understand Java scripts? I don’t need to write Java but need to figure out the logic of the code for a summary report. I have Python and SAS experience. Thx

Ask someone who knows it already. Don’t try to learn unless you’re interested

Lol, and that's how partners do it!

1. Review the test cases if the developer actually wrote them.
2. Run the script using inputs from the domain of the input and understand how it behaves
3. If it has a main class or main method, start reviewing it from line 1 and follow the methods

Java or JavaScript? (They are very different)

If you don’t know it already, you aren’t going to learn the nuances fast enough to write a report about it. (Like which included libraries are worth mentioning).

For example, if JavaScript with React, a few days learning isn’t going to teach you enough you should be assessing how routing was implemented, if Redux is setup well to avoid performance issues, or whether function-based or class-based modules are used (and whether there’s a reason to switch). That’s not even getting into a thousand other questions about a React setup, let alone Angular, Vue, Svelte, or completely vanilla JavaScript. What about browser vs. Node?

If you are being asked to write a report, it’s because someone unfamiliar with the code or the project needs enough evaluation to make decisions. You being in the middle for a game of telephone won’t helpful.

Ok. I’m scared now. I’ll probably escalate. I actually have 7 months for this task. But anyways i see your point it probably requires years of Java coding experience

OP - pair up with a Sr Dev or Arch that is familiar with the solution. They will most likely need to spend 5 to 10 hrs a week to go through the code while you document.

Guys I think I’ve got my feet in the door! I can read/guess some meaningful insights out of the code now! Late nights seem to pay out 😇

Hello everyone! New fish here in this fishbowl. I have a question concerning empowering and developing the team.

Is it possible to empower the team and delegate certain tasks and then risk to be perceived as “irrelevant” to the superiors (because the team is doing the legwork)? Is this an unfounded fear? Is it a real risk? And if it is a real risk, how can I manage it?

Curious how other marketing teams like to share resources internally. I'm considering creating a centralized hub where departments can access news, branding information, logos, premade materials and basic templates like letterheads. I'd also like to be able to give specific users access to specific things (ie I don't want everyone to have the logo vector).

Any suggestions or thoughts? Know any software for this? My instinct is just to build a website or page with logins, but open to options!
