I like Vamoose best, but it only leaves from Rosslyn and Bethesda. The Gold buses are a good midway point between the cheapest bus and Amtrak. I use Tripper a lot too!
Peterpan is pretty cheap
Washington deluxe!!
Pro
Train can be like 50 one way...
It’s never this cheap. Last 10 train trips “oh it’ll be $50 each way”. Check Amtrak... oh, $280 RT....
Where are you going to be traveling from? Check out OurBus!
OurBus has a route from Union Station to Port Authority. Tickets will cost ~$100 round trip (depending on how early you book them). Solid service.
Tripperbus gives you every sixth ride free! Always really timely and pretty clean
I just do one way car rental. Cheaper than Amtrak even with all expenses included. And you don’t have to sit in the germ can
$23 southbound on tolls and about $20 gas. Rental is about $60. I have a rental return near my house and pick up in midtown Manhattan.
Washing deluxe seems to be the best balance of cost and quality.
I’ve had way too many bad experiences with megabus
From where? Eastern Bus is my go to for NYC. Zero frills but they‘re cheap even at the last minute (<$25) and go from DC Chinatown to Penn Station which can’t be beat
If going to Arlington to New York, Vamoose leaves from rosslyn
Have been in DC 9 years (undergrad and college), family lives in NYC. Washington Deluxe or Vamoose 1,000,000%. Standard or “gold” options.
Bestbus is solid - comfortable, clean, and cheap
