Open to hearing any ideas but to be more specific have an 11 year old and looking for something for the two of us that doesn’t require too much planning but has a variety of activities. Good balance between luxury adult needs and fun kid things. Thanks!
Loved Tyler Place!
Florida resident, so there’s a bias here. Orlando has some of everything. Do a day or two at the parks, then branch out to winter park, see sports downtown, etc. If you’re going to a park, stay in an on-property hotel - you usually can get into the park and hour before gen pop. Ritz Orlando is pretty nice, lazy River etc. Ritz Amelia Island (near Jax) has a kids club, right on the beach etc.
Lake Tahoe. I like national parks but the big ones in the west mostly require lodging reservations way in advance. San Diego/Coronado.
Bentonville, Arkansas
11 is good for universal. Orlando in general is better for younger kids though. It really depends on what they are into. We have done a bunch of places and our trip to Colorado/Utah was one of our favorites. Great balance of luxury hotels, nature, sports. My 11 year old really wants to go to dc and see some of the Smithsonians and he really wants to go to Alaska but that’s not that easy
Yeah it was a great itinerary. We did this trip a couple times:
Fly into Denver
Ritz, great rate for points
Try to catch a Rockies game
Day trip to garden of the gods
Rocky Mountain national park
Some cool spots in Estes park, rental homes and condos
Vail
Stay in the village the four seasons is very nice. They have some really great concerts there in the amphitheater. Check in advance
Drive west on 70
Stop at hot springs and caves. Very cool.
Continue to moab. We actually stayed at the Spring Hill suites. They have a nice pool and it’s super close to the arches entrance.
Drive to slc
Stop in donut falls on the way, cool hike
In slc we like kimpton
Then fly back!
Smokey mountains / Gatling burg and NC side. White water rafting, water parks, bears, and swimming in the mountains
Hawaii - Oahu north shore, Kauai and Maui. Oregon. Tahoe.
Tech bros are ruining Hawaii
Depends on where you live, what you’re looking for, and how far you’re willing to travel - Colorado in the off-season, as a CA resident the central coast of California (Monterrey to San Luis Obispo), as a former VA resident Chincoteague Island on the eastern shore of Virginia, OBX in September with small kids (the place is super slow and amazing). All of these gave us a chance to be outside and have a good time relaxing in the evening when adults only.
My kids love Puerto Rico. Great beaches, hiking, golf, nightlife for adults.
Bioluminescent Bay, natural water slide, deserted beaches, San Juan for some great meals.
We love nantucket
Rosemary Beach, FL
South Seas resort Captiva Island, FL
