Favorite place to bank? Wells Fargo pulled a nasty on my mortgage, so I’m going to move my direct deposit and savings somewhere else...

Don’t ever bank at a bank – no reason to now. Go to a decently-sized credit union. Pre-consulting, I worked at a bank and a credit union. The mindset is so vastly different: banks look at your money as a pot to siphon from whereas credit unions look to provide services for you. It used to be that reach and size separated the two, but that’s changed with electronic/mobile banking. Plus, with mortgages they’re both likely to sell it to Fannie/Freddie, so the difference in rates will be minimal.

Totally unbiased opinion here, but our Preferred Rewards program is boss. 5.25% cash back? Done. Points off your mortgage and reduced origination fee? Done. Free trades or discounted advisor services? Done. .5% reduction on auto loans? Done. I use USAA for my insurance, but all in with BofA for banking is *rewarding*

Just recommend NOT using for mortgages.

USAA and Navy Fed

Amen. Have used Navy Federal since I was 18. Am 53....4 mortgages and numerous car payments later. Dropped student loan 1 point when I combined & moved there, dropped another pint after 18months auto-pay. Gave me 1% 25 anniversary gift to buy done any loan or mortgage. NFCU Always.

USAA isn’t as great as it once was in terms of the full financial relationship provider, but it’s still a great bank if you don’t care about physical locations. They debuted almost all of the e-banking stuff like depositing checks from your phone years before anyone else.

I’ll raise your 4.5x savings rate for 20x!!!

USAA is great (as far as ease of use and convenience are concerned) for core checking/savings, but I've noticed a sharp decline in the competitiveness of their insurance products over the past 15 years, to the point where they just aren't even remotely competitive for any insurance product where I live.

like

Yeah, the ease of use and them being my oldest adult account has kept me there despite them being merely average, at best, with everything else, though I've also spread my core banking to NFCU.

Folks that have accounts/loans/WM with Wells Fargo, you need to watch “Dirty Money” the episode about Wells Fargo. I will never bank with them ever again.

Wells gonna Wells. I’ve used BOA for 10 years and they aren’t bad. If I wasn’t tied at the hip with them I’d probably switch to Chase

Nearest credit union or Chase. Don’t even need a physical location for Chase since they provide all services online...

My son is entering Kindergarten and his (great but hamstrung) public school can only offer 60-85 minutes per day for remote learning, 3 days per MONTH in-school. Just not feasible for a working mom in this industry. So I met some parents, we hired a private teacher, and I’m rolling with a 4-family homeschool pod. I’m keeping my kid in public school, hoping the curriculums can align and not go crazy. Love and strength to all moms and dads and partners out there. It’s tough - but so are we!
