Favouritism? I got screwed over, paired with another art director. Same job title, salary, started at the same time. After doing good work together, I won awards individually, turned down a job offer to stay in this company...was let go and it turned out my cd who dealt with my pay etc and decided where briefs went had never raised the job I turned down with management, I was earning less and he had been giving the good opportunities to the other junior ad. Ended in me getting a pay off...

Hard not to sound like just a very bitter character but it was so blatantly unfair and a mad situation really but was pretty much bullied by this cd and I just wondered how common this type of thing is? Horrible thinking someone can take a dislike to you and pull the strings on your career

OP I’m sorry you went through this, politics and favoritism in the workplace can be brutal. I don’t subscribe to it, but I’ve ended up bitter for not playing the game too. Did you ever feel like you couldn’t trust your partner/the other Junior AD? Did the other AD have an existing positive rapport with the CD? Who started working there first?

like

Thank you. It’s the worst. I think it was a shit position to put two people in, someone was always going to draw the short straw and can’t really begrudge anyone for buttering up to people I guess. They were better at the politics stuff than I was and I presumed just doing your job well and having good ideas would be rewarded. We started technically at the same time, they were in the office first and I think this guy directly hired them which wasn’t the case with me so always felt a bit out of the loop and that got worse over time. I just presumed everything would be professional but this was all quite personal.

Did you let the CD know you got a job offer? Did they convince you to stay or did you decide that on your own? Were there any red flags with the CD beforehand?

Oh yeah! I was told my salary would be reviewed the next month in line with that and was told to stay, obviously didn’t happen, I know I know people fob you off but this was quite poor. Realised he would have handled someone else differently you know? Something just always felt off. Kinda cold or would talk pass me, emails going to someone else that’s should have been for me. After this there were actual red flags and some nasty stuff unfortunately but too late. When you’re in that situation it’s hard to do much to address it, had I reported him or anything I was afraid of retaliation. In hindsight I should have but I don’t think you have the perspective in the moment to reanalyse how bad things are.

I worked hard at a small agency and was promoted from AE to AS after only 8 months in the industry. I had to leave and found a contract position as an AS at a large agency. I am finishing my contract and my boss offered me a permanent position, but wants me on as an AE. I am open to the AE position, but they are unwilling to compromise on the AE salary which is a substantial cut from my salary at my former agency and 45% of my contract pay. What do I do? Do I leave if I feel I deserve more?

Hey! Can anyone assist with what can be claimed as workers comp? I was at work when I had my first episode of vertigo. Everything was spinning, wouldn't stop, and I couldn't stand or sit. I was freaking out and asked to be rushed to ER. Work paid for the ambulance. No physical injury. Insurance apparently didn't cover emergency charges. The out of pocket expense is about $2.5k and was wondering if I can claim this as workers comp. Again, no physical injury though.
