I think you did the right thing. You were honest and gave your current salary and said you’re flexible. They also know you’re coming from a bigger company. The last thing you want to say is “I’m ok accepting less.” You played it perfectly.
This literally happened to me yesterday. I was over their top by 25%.
They did not pull the offer. You’ll be fine. It is stressful tho I agree.
If they come back with an offer, just say - as I mentioned, that’s where I am right now, so unfortunately that salary is too low
Guys thank you so much! I feel uplifted. I’ll update you!
Im confused. You are interviewing for a new job, they asked your range, and you said your current salary, which is too high?
I replied to a recruiter that they were $60k below the minimum salary for me to consider a move, and said I loved my job. Shockingly, they replied with an apology and a commitment to help me find roles between that minimum and 50k above it. I would just be honest. If you are willing to go down in salary and love the company, tell them. They want to be good matchmakers!
@huge 1 - what a recruiter says and what they actually do are two very different things...
Maybe the recruiter will assume they heard incorrectly in the first place
Sorry guys was trying to put all the info in the character limit. I think the number I gave is too high and they might pass because of it? It’s a smaller company. I repeated that I was flexible but I’m just worried I turned them off. I gave my real number tho, didn’t inflate it. Idk. I really want it and we’re in the final stage and I forgot all my negotiations sills and I’m just upset.
