Yes, please refuse any business that uses fossil fuels. That will remove one more bid competitor for me.
Changing what you choose to eat is a great first step to lower your impact every day. Less meat, more locally grown.
when it is naturally grown beef and is humanely practiced. still. we eat much more meat than we need. reducing consumption and waste with all of the products we use will help. moderation is key.

You guys really believe all this BS? I am all about recycling and clean air and water, but asking a bunch of politicians to act on climate is lunacy. Those kids should go to school, learn something and advance technology that will resolve the problem. Assuming there is one. Shocked that a bunch of smart people continue to buy into an eternally flawed argument that results in radical policy proposals that literally do nothing for the environment in a meaningful way.
I'm old enough to remember this debate about the hole in the ozone layer. Developing world growing need for coolant, more refrigerators being discarded, growth in AC in cars and everyone saying nothing could be done.
Awareness, focus, research, technology development, and problem addressed.
We should just stop having kids. The amount of humans are the root cause of the problem. We can all “do our part” individually but one person driving a hummer is still cleaner than 100 people driving Prius’s. If we simply reduce the population of humans climate problems will reduce by itself. Less consumers = less manufacturing of products using energy and producing emissions. Let’s be honest if humans completely disappeared today, the planet would be a much cleaner place.
While I’m personally in the no kid land myself, I think we can already improve a lot by having fewer kids. Same goes for meat consumption, you can cut your meat consumption by half without that much difficulty. If everyone in the world did that, it’d still be so much better!
The world developed places that used to be undeveloped and cured diseases that used to keep the population in check.
You can’t unring those bells, so be grateful you’ll be gone this century.
Well put.
The ‘we have 12 years’ hysteria is bullshit. I don’t the planet can sustain another 2+B people reaching the middle class without significant changes to energy production and manufacturing, but we’re not wiping out life as we know it

Science is not perfect, and the scientific process/community has gotten better (methods, peer reviews) since some of these were posted. So why not act on the information we have until it is disproven rather than risk it being correct and doing nothing? Side note: media is always more sensational, read the papers not the articles.
Ok guys you can fly and feel bad but yes it’s ironic. Our job itself has a huge impact due to flying but I’m not sure s/he can quit overnight.

I posted this as a reply on one of the threads but thought I should put it here as well:
I recommend reading Climate of Hope by Carl Pope and Michael Bloomberg. One is a Democrat, the other a Republican. It’s possible to be united on the greatest issue that faces our planet, and also shows how we don’t have to rely on federal government to act. Great book.
If you want a totally perfect idol for climate change before you act, you can go back 1,000 years and try to find this person. I am happy with a leader who’s spending his money to advance this cause right here, right now, even though the guy’s not perfect.
So, I do not want to be the voice of reason in an obviously unpopular point of view. I am a practical person who looks at facts. The sun is the absolute power of life, and the phenomenon of the sun is why temperature here is life supporting. Earth is so small, a simple sun spot or hurricane on the sun can increase energy which affects temps on earth and other planets for years. A reasonable persons first question should be, are other planets warming also. The answer seems to be a yes. I don’t pretend to know the answers but hope an open and thoughtful debate on the subject amongst my peers would be warranted.
BCG3, I agree which is why I said “could/would have” but I was focusing on conveying one point, omitting the ‘possibility’ from the argument.
The entire point is, we do not operate in a vacuum. We can never say for sure what things should be without our influence, we can only take the data we have an conclude that we should take action to mitigate whatever effect we are, more likely than not, having on the changes to the planet. Although the science effectively incriminates us, the average person has not been trained to evaluate research nor evaluate the results of the research (not an insult, just observation). But that results in asking irrelevant questions like “what’s the ideal temperature of the earth” when we should really be asking “is this change consistent with the previous patterns observed.” But even scientists sometimes find themselves asking the wrong questions or not catching bias in their experiments, which is why there is a peer review process. Ultimately politicians/media can abuse the lack of absolutes. This isn’t as refined an arguement as I like but it’s fishbowl so...🤷♀️
Anyways, the answer is no, current change is not consistent, we need to do something.
I think about it a lot and concentrate on what I can do as an individual and business. They are small things but hopefully they make a difference. I shop locally, try and avoid plastic, eat less meat and do most business meetings via video.
this has to be a young poster. need a few more years to really engraine that selfishness and cynicism.
True words
stop flying weekly twice. if 100 people stop doing that, we would make a change rather than being at a strike .
There is no place in the world for thoughts like this

China is literally planning to add a new coal power plant every two weeks from now until 2030. US peaked coal production in 2011.
We are looking at 7 to 14 celcius increase in some regions. Imho, we are screwed as society. So why bother thinking about? Ice melting is on its way, Methan comes with it. Soon the Methan under water will melt and pop up etc etc etc. No need to stress your self. Just enjoy time
Consultant: “OMG we need to spend $10 trillion on green new deal! Fossil fuels are evil! Shame on Republicans for blocking carbon taxes”
“Hold on I’m getting in my Uber for myself to go 3 blocks to the airport. I hate taking metro”
Carbon taxes are for the uber wealthy who jet around the world on private planes or have yachts bigger than your neighborhood - f that.
At least unlike me, you don't have to work into weekends consulting companies that harm public health how to grow their businesses

It’s going to take years to see real impactful changes because all the alternative energy sources now aren’t 100% reliable (he’ll they’re not even 50% reliable). There is also way too many of us here as well and that isn’t helping things. The good news is that, much like it has in the past, the planet will heal itself and we, as a species, shall reap what we’ve sown (think next ice age) and this is inevitable no matter what action we take now.
I agree nuclear is the best way and the reactor designed by TerraPower is most sensible solution to traditional nuclear risks if public perception swings back to common sense on this topic.
