Feeling inadequate as a lawyer. Like I don’t feel I can do the work well. So I’m half assing the work. How long can someone half ass it and make it in BigLaw?

I mean if you’re a senior associate you’ve already built up a rep so you can probably half ass it for awhile.

It took someone billing 90 hr months for nearly a year for my firm to fire an associate.

like

From what I can see in our current pool of seniors, keep half assing the work and find a competent and ambitious junior to delegate to. Use your whole ass for BD and brand visibility (personal and firm brand) and you’ll probably make partner in 6 years.

People can get to senior associate easily half-assing it. Just depends who you work for, how much they like you, how bad is bad, how busy your practice is etc. So 8-12 years?

Looking to transfer my lease to someone, as I’m moving for a new job. 2 bed, 2 bath top floor unit off Callowhill and 15th for $2626 per month, move in ~12/1. It’s on the end of the building, so living room and bedroom are corners, tons of natural light. Fitness center, golf simulator, rooftop grills, concierge, the works. Let me know if you or someone you know are interested!

Can we expect 80% hike after 6 months in the current organization. I'm not actually planning to move out because of of hike, but because of the project which I got in which I'm not comfortable with. I'm interested to stay in the organization. But my supervisor said I have to stay in this project for atleast 5 years and HR asked to stay for atleast 2 years which I feel would loose my career.

Kindly provide a solution.

Additional Posts in Big Law

Need some advice from my biglaw family. I’m a 2nd year lit associate. I will draft briefs and motions that I feel are pretty good and when I get them back from senior associates, they’re sometimes completely re-written. I’ve been assured I am not a bad writer and that “it will come” but the changes these seniors make are just SO GOOD. So my question is, how have people here become better legal writers? Is it just a matter of giving it time? I want to write like these senior associates write!

Do lower ranked “big law” firms have better WLB? Deciding between a v10 and a V40. I don’t want to make partner and am not the best attorney (too Exhausted, no more motivation) so am thinking of choosing the V40 for either better WLB or smaller likelihood of getting let go.

A department (being vague) I partially work in is losing all it’s midlevels soon (no senior associates) leaving me and another junior. I also work in another department which I like better, but I feel like I’m now going to be consumed by this group because they have no one. I’m gonna be told “it’s a great opportunity to step up”, but clearly it has not worked out for any associate there for some time. Not sure how to handle this as the hours skyrocket, and if I have leverage to push back?

How much does a letter of recommendation from your current employer help when lateraling? I currently work at a top-tier regional firm in a small market (1M metro)and I’m moving to a large market. There aren’t any biglaw firms in my current market, but associates at my regional firm regularly lateral to biglaw in big markets. I’ve applied to biglaw firms in the larger market but not much luck. I’m well liked at my firm. Will a letter of rec from my employer be a significant boost to my app?
