Lots of my IT audit colleagues have moved to risk consulting and some to data management. What does your client portfolio look like and what area of IT audit do you yourself specialize in?
Rising Star
What else are you interested in? Start there! Think about work that you might find interesting. Write that down? Do you like build things out, but not implementing them or vice versa? Do you want to be more client facing, do you want to work on something more technical or less technical? Is there something you’re interested in? Do you enjoy process design, strategy, etc! You might need to start fresh but you’ve got I’m sure many years ahead of your to try something new that’s fulfilling. I’m in tech consulting if you’re interesting in that.
Do you work with clients? Could be worth talking to some of them over the coffee about what they do to get some more insight to other options.
If your role is accurate here and you’re a senior associate, you have so much opportunity to check out other things. I had a discussion with my career coach when I was a sr. in audit and told her I needed to see something else. I ended up going to PwC’s Deals group and absolutely loved it. I stayed on track for all promotions (was actually early promoted and being tracked for a second early promotion prior to leaving), so definitely didn’t restart my career. A lot of your skills are transferable (your ability to manage deadlines, critically think, work on teams/with clients). Focus on those and finding something you enjoy!
