Feeling very discouraged & almost useless in my new role. Been at my new gig for 4 months and not feeling super confident and up to speed with the work and our deliverables. Have truly only been staffed on one “real” project (deal flow has been super slow) and i don’t think i’m getting enough reps (which i know isn’t my fault). Has anything felt this before / is this normal? Really sucky feeling tbh

I’m new to my role too- one month now. I feel overwhelmed, no one trained me and I’m told to run with two huge global projects. One no one here has done anything like yet so I get to just figure it out as I go. :( we are in sucky boats . Have to just keep trying our best and learning as much as we can

Feel the same after job switch and title bump. Hang in there!

That's a common feeling, I think. The fact that you feel untrained is hampering you and making you even less productive, starting a kind of vicious cycle. If you know anybody in your office, maybe talking to them would help grab a hold of the handlebars before the bike steers completely off course. I feel like there are definitely people in your place of work that felt the same way starting out, so time to ingratiate yourself to them.

This is very common, and it can make you feel super useless and just...not great. But it's temporary. Or it should be at least. There will always be a learning curve and this is a harder industry than others because there is so much pressure on performance. However, you just have to stick with it for a bit to see if it gets better or not. If it doesn't, it's the place, not you imo

Sorry to hear you're dealing with this. Adjusting to a new role is difficult and you definitely aren't alone. It's hard to feel useful if you're not being given a proper chance. I hope things start to look up for you soon. Hang in there!

I have def felt this way before. Its so frustrating to feel discouraged in a new role. But give yourself an appropriate amount of time to adjust before throwing in the towel. You've got this.

Oddly enough I genuinely have been really enjoying the work. I find it very interesting and see myself here for awhile, quitting or giving up never crossed my mind. Just a tough feeling when there’s not a lot I can do to gain confidence because there isn’t enough work.

I totally get you. I've been there when I was setting out and landed a job that's a bit stretched far for my skillset. A mentor who noticed me getting paralyzed when working told me to just start with a learning mindset. To try to be open for new information instead of beating myself up for not knowing things. Take it slow, things will fall into place soon.

Hey the same thing happens to me but 6 months in I found I’m doing well. Be patient and kind with yourself, stay optimistic and try your best. It will come with time.

I’ve been leading a massive project by myself for the last year almost and my boss torpedoed my last round of meetings: “oh we don’t need to socialize this, I’ve been doing it, let’s just kick it off.” Okay. So turns out, no one fucking knew and now because we had one meeting instead of two, the people we met with aren’t even the ones doing the work, and they’re not telling the ones who are supposed to do the work about it. So I now need to go back and do more meetings.

I understand (and respect) that most of you Googlers on here feel that a referral is only useful if you know the person but I would be happy to jump on the phone to give you some info about me. Hi, I am an expat living in France and working as an IT consultant. I got an experience here that recruiters insist on disclosing my current salary. Is it a norm in France? Do you reply how much you earn? To me it seems absolutely inappropriate and irrelevant. I can respond what are my future salary expectations. I refuse to tell how much I make now, and then recruiters say that they can't proceed with my application without this information. WDYT?
