Fellow biglawboiz, what’s your “go to” nice casual outfit in the summer (e.g., hanging out with friends in a casual setting, dinner at a restaurant, etc.). Mine has been jeans and a black v-neck, but honestly I just need a change. I’m also in my early 30s so probably too old to pull off the nice athliesure look (e.g., lulu shirts). Polos feel a little too preppy but maybe at my age that’s the look I need to go for? Just curious what you guys like to wear (also any brand recs are welcome).

You are not too old for athliesure. The issue is whether you are fit enough for athliesure.

Can’t think like this, dawg. I wear athleisure at every possible opportunity and am also a senior assoc.

No v necks. That would be a good start.

White sneakers are a must with most outfits as well.

Nice untucked button down shirt with sleeves rolled up over a pair of chinos. Maybe a watch if I’m feeling it. If going for slightly more formal, I’ll do loafers. Or my Air Force 1s for more casual look.

This is the way

French terry polos are a good look for summer. Also can’t go wrong with a silk camp shirt or linen button down. Wouldn’t say any of that is strictly “preppy” anymore.

Additional Posts in Big Law

I am a sixth-year associate overseeing a second year. They are an exceptionally good associate. I am honestly shocked at the work product I receive and the way they go above and beyond. The issue I have is that they sometimes take awhile to turn things around. For example, I ask for a draft response to the client, and they take three-four days. I know they’re busy, but I would like to address this in a positive way. Any suggestions?

When you’re slammed, but all the associates in your area/practice group are slammed as well, how does your firm/partners handle additional work coming in? Is the expectation that you literally bill 70 hours a week or 14/15 hours a day or do they shift work to other offices and associates in maybe slower practice groups? I’m already on track for about 215 this month and keep getting buried. More work keeps coming in and I’m on the verge of a breakdown.
