Shall I accept the offer and join the Canadian member firm? My experience with USCIS has not been great so far and immigration on EB3 is also not looking good option considering the wait time.

Reaction Icon Like
Arrow Icon

Yes. Even when things were better, EB3 was hopeless

Deloitte generally does not revoke i140. So you should be good if you are just moving to the Canadian member firm.

Reaction Icon Like
Arrow Icon

They don’t revoke even if the employee quits and leaves to another company ?

Thanks For the information OP!

What is the salary difference? Is it significant?

Reaction Icon Like
Arrow Icon

Yes it is, taking a cut of 15K

Reaction Icon Like

This is just me, i would take it if the CAD value is same or only slightly below my USD value. For eg: If my sal now is 100K USD, i would be more than happy with 100K CAD.

I tried but it seems CA is not as comparative in terms of Salary. They pay based on their standards. At any level paychecks are slightly lighter(20%) compared to the USA.

Then i would say it depends on what level ur and how many yrs u hve left on ur h1b.

I just got the Extension for next 3 years but the question is - will the immigration be any better after 3 years.

Hello, take the Canadian offer. Get pr from Canada. Become a Canadian citizen in 4 more years and come back to work on a TN visa. Shorter route , unless your priority date is 2012. If you just started your application, you are better off with the above approach.

M in the same boat. My extension is expiring in 2021. I have just got my ITA. But based on when i get my PR i will plan to move in 2020 / 2021. Not happy with my current role. Its a tough choice between money & uncertainty vs. less money & certainty. But if u really feel the current scenario is affecting ur health or u will burnout, u shd go for it.

^ that’s one way , but very simplistic IMO. Canadian system is different. You pay higher taxes for better social benefits. Education is cheaper than the US for instance. Canada has better QOL like Scandinavia. Their immigration is light years better . Overall, your day to day is going to be better or same as the US without immigration BS or other rhetoric US has much better and wider career opportunities. I prefer US because of that. But then I don’t have immigration problems. I would not compare money to money, because that doesn’t give you a full picture. You can take 15 k more but you’re opening yourself to visa hassles. You’re stuck with your employer and in many cases role for years and years. And potentially getting denied for no logical reason. So that extra money comes with visa headaches and unending stress. Canadian citizenship will give you access to US market anyway.

USA has wider opportunities for people who are citizens. Not for us on H1b. The applicable market is less than 5 percent of the actual market.

Go for it! Made a similar choice myself and I sleep better! No use staying and hoping for things to turn out well! Instead , get out and live it up!

op .. so ita a 15% cut without factoring in that CAD is 30 % weaker.. so if you are making 100k usd now your offer is for 85k CAD or 64k USD. I frankly wouldnt take that offer.

Reaction Icon Like
Arrow Icon

85k CAD is low for maintaining a good lifestyle in Canada unless you stay in a very low COL area. it will more likely than not be a step down from existing standard of living at 100k USD (assumed)... my 2 cents... you left your motherland for a better lifestyle not just to survive so keep that in mind.. else it's a very personal descision and I can see why it would make sense for alot of people.. would not for me.

If there is no pressing need to move to CA stick it out. There is more long term opportunity in the US. Also, many firms will switch you to EB2 or better once you reach a certain level. Evaluate the long term prospects of the move

At what point does the value of a degree fall off? I'm in my early 30s, and have five years of experience, and work on a very theoretically interesting project. I believe I'm on track to promotion in the next year. So, I could put in a year of full time school to check the box off, but I'd be sacrificing hobbies and social life (not to mention cost). Is this FOMO or is there real opportunity here?

My boyfriend and I are planning to go back to the city from our respective parents’ homes. His dad has had to go into the office for work, so he’s had someone traveling back and forth where he’s been (essential worker, not medical). Whereas I’ve been home and my mom has only gone back and forth to the grocery store. Is it okay for us to go back and quarantine together or should he quarantine for 2 weeks before we meet up since he’s had someone who’s been going to the office for work?
