Fellow desi 🐠 on H1, my wife got into the country a couple of months ago on H4. We're looking for a pathway towards employment for her. What viable options can we look at? I140 is in process

I knw mate ... my wife had to do an extra masters from UK (online) before applying for her real field of interest at NYU(she is a dancer). So I would really suggest taking each day as it comes and more importantly start to develop a plan for your wife. Fyi - her path to NYU was a 6 year path ... starting with teaching dance to immigrant children , working for a non-profit to nyc and now the masters.... patience and strategy my friend. Also I don’t plan on being in this country long term, once she gets her masters we are out of here to Australia, Canada or Singapore

OP - don't get stressed about EAD. It's a proposal at this stage and cannot become real without congressional approvals and those things take a lot of time. Given the current dysfunction, just focus on applying for the EAD once you have your I-140 and help her get into the workforce. Don't worry about things you cannot control.

@D2- very high liability.. if anyone were to sue for whatever reasons, god knows how much trouble one can get in..
OP- do it by the book.. not worth the risk.

Either wait for h4-ead or do cash job p)

Any ideas for cash jobs?

Don’t take a risk my friend- i know ppl that have been deported for working working at pumps etc. seeing as H4 EAD is most definitely going to go away, I would highly suggest that your wife get a masters in a field of her interest and then try for H1B , that is what my wife is currently doing. You want to try and do things the right way as opposed to to do something illegal just for a few bucks

Makes sense PWC1. But I'm just torn. I can't afford a masters degree, she already has another master's degree from London. Just depressed thinking of things.

Damn, your response is a big reality check. thanks

Babysitting? Nanny?

@OP: master's degree from a state university would not be very expensive. That imo is the easiest way to get into workforce

@PwC1 - Why not just go to Canada or Australia and get Masters there? Probably will be easier to find a job with a local college degree. Heard people are having a tough time finding job in Canada / Australia directly.

PWC1 I would assume you like US more than other nations that provide easier immigration path.. in that case since your wife has masters in dance she can look for a sponsor who can file a P Visa. A P3 Visa is perfect for her and should let her explore her field of dance.

EY2 - not a bad suggestion but I have an ivy league MBA, and NYU is as close as u can get to a masters (so don’t think a masters degree will stop us from getting a job)... plus as the number of years of experience start to rack up (9 years consulting exp) , focus shifts to quality of exp. last month had a 1st round interview with ATK Singapore and BCG vietnam. So I don’t think that a local masters degree is the silver bullet to get a job in these countries, not getting a job could be a function of a myriad of things - slow economy, not enough jobs, not the right type of skills/experience etc. Again this is all just my opinion based on what I have typically seen

SC1 - that is one of the options we are looking into, and you are right we do like the US, but we have a 2 year old daughter and we are getting more and more apprehensive about sending her to school in a country with loose gun laws. Her safety “trumps” everything else. Apologies this topic is far removed from what OP was originally asking, but these are all aspects that we use to make our decisions

Agreed PWC1, look for all options but chose the best that protects you and the family.

Difficult choice for you and I am in the same positions.
My wife is grudgingly pursuing a 2nd Masters degree hoping to leverage the OPT and H1B opportunities.
Given that H1B is a lottery, you have to be prepared with the eventuality that you won’t get selected.
So you must be prepared to lose that investment. However an investment on education will (hopefully) pay out in the longer term.
Other options - move to countries where both of you can work. I am pursuing Canada as an option

Agree pwc1. My wife had an mba n yet had to go for masters against her wish.

Yea it’s unfortunate guys...glad to see we are all doing our best to try and push our spouses to the forefront rather than get greedy and drown in our own ambitions! One step at a time all!

Hello folks,
I have an offer in hand by value labs and Accenture and I’m more leaning towards valuelabs. However, I’ve seen a lot of comment online which were made in 2022 and before as well that the job security is an issue in value labs and they will fire a chunk without any prior notice.
Is it true?
I would really appreciate if anyone can shed some on light on this.

What sorts of SQL questions are typically asked in interview questions for senior data analysis jobs? Like is knowing SQL from freecodecamp enough or should I look into taking a course online?

I’ve unfortunately not gotten the chance to use SQL in my current position so I don’t feel like I have enough experience in it, but have experience in everything else (Python, tableau, storytelling, etc)

Can you sign an offer and say no to the contract?
