Fellow Fishes, I am NC and state does not offer any tax benefit for using state 529 plans. Any recommendations of which plan is better (performance/fees). Kid will be heading to college in next 9 years.

If you already have a brokerage/retirement account at a fidelity or vanguard those might be good places to start your search. I like having fewer logins whenever possible if they have competitive options.

Same with Merrill

I live in NC and used the Nevada plan from vanguard

I’m in California and use the Nevada Vanguard plan.

No one can predict performance. Do you have a preference on funds you want? Do you want to hold them at a certain brokerage like vanguard or Fidelity? You can just go based off Morningstar ratings. There are a few that are gold rated

I live in Illinois and use the Illinois Brightstart plan. No brainer for me due to tax benefits. It is highly rated and has good options. I think fidelity has a choice of a few state plans. I would probably just go through them if at least one of the plans they offer is a good one.

I've been using the Utah plan for a decade now. Broad, low cost fund options. Customizable - age based or build your own. Fees have only gone down.

My employer disqualifies high earners and offers them a NQSP instead. Therefore, as a high earner, I don’t qualify to contribute to 401k. Is it advisable to start contributing to NQSP? I am a bit skeptical since funds placed in this bucket is not guaranteed to be disbursed if the firm goes out of business or something happens to a point where it shut down.

I'm about to leave my current company and am thinking of rolling over my 401K to the new company's 401K bc more money can equal greater returns (if the market does well). I'm in my early 30s, so more risk tolerant. Is this "wise" or should I just leave my 401K where it is and begin a new one. I'm happy with my options, so no need to move it to an IRA.

I just realized I’ll likely have a MAGI of over $124,000 this year and will have to reduce the amount I contribute to my Roth IRA. I don’t know exactly by how much and I’ve already contributed about $1,900 directly through my Roth IRA. Does anyone know if I can still do a backdoor Roth IRA for the remainder of the $6,000? Is there any way to avoid over-contributing to my Roth IRA by the amount I already put in there?
