Fellow 🐠 I’m so mad that I need to rant (and maybe get your input cause I’m not thinking straight right now). After 5 weeks of waiting, an offer was finally extended...

Can I play devils advocate here and just say that it doesn’t really cost you much to basically say “give me 280k that is MY firm offer” and if they don’t give it to you, then you walk. You were going to walk anyway at the 220k so just email them back and say, we talked before about 280k, this was not expectation. I’m firm about the 280k, can you make that work? This would take probably like 10 minutes to type up and send. Might as well try.

Then walk. It sucks, but it happens.

I went through a similar process with a position recently--initially discussed $180, the recruiter said the band went to $170, which was close enough, so I went through the ~6 week process. They came back with a hard offer of $119 base and $26 sign on, at which point I politely thanked them for wasting my time and moved on.

HR/recruiters are idiots sometimes.
Thank them for their time, and move on.

So they admitted making a mistake when they entered the position in the system. The offer I got was the best they could do. I politely declined it and wished them best of luck. What a bummer. Also can’t believe they are paying $220k for L6.

No this is total comp. Rather reputable tech company.

We initially discussed their comp band ($280k ballpark) and my expectation. Although there was a slight gap, it was small enough that we agreed we should continue and work something out if I’m a good fit. Even last Fri, the recruiter was anchoring to that original number. I received a concrete number over the phone today and it was substantially lower ($220k) and it sounded like internally they can’t go higher as that’s how much people at the same level are making. I would usually counter but it came so low that I feel like there’s no point in discussing any further. Not sure if they are low balling to see how I would react or just the process was messed up (candidate experience was so bad). Not sure what to do here but in just angry...

Pretty sad I'd say. But there are plenty of other companies out there, so I guess you'll have to keep looking.

Try to negotiate. Ask for the 280k+ you originally requested. Email may not be the best option. So request a discussion to assess how the offer could be improved. Be willing to walk. If they're trying to pull some BS on you this early, or they're just badly organized internally, maybe you're dodging a bullet.

To give you more context, my ask was $320-330k. I was thinking maybe we could come in the middle and land around $300k as I knew this company pays a bit less compared to other big tech. This move is driven by my pursuit of WLB and happiness so I was expecting some pay cut but not by this much. I think what might be happening is she gave me L6 number while my peers in this group are all L5. Heck my hiring manager might be L6. If that’s the case, I cannot over come this structural issue. Or maybe, I got down leveled after the interview. I will do a final push tomorrow but I’m ready to walk. I also know that there’s no one else solid in their candidate pipeline.

Echoing the earlier sensible sounding recommendation from G1. If you don’t ask, you won’t get

Yeah I’m asking. That’s why I told her I need to think about it and we can connect again in the next few days.

I wouldn’t do them the courtesy of thinking about it for even a few minutes. This happened to me and my reply was simply “no thank you”

Recruiting is where companies put their best foot forward. It never gets better. Ever. Only take an offer if you’re really excited about it. I’d express my frustration to the recruiter and decline.

People on the app are posting great salaries 30+LPA, 40+ LPA
But not sure how many are for QA or SDET.
Can we really negotiate YOE*3.5 and above?

What skills do they look for?
DS or Algo is not on list for QA right?
What's the skill we need to learn to reach 40Lpa+ for 7-9YOE.

Now we’re not talking and it feels like we left things on a weird note. Should I move on?

Hi guys,

I had my technical round with TCS yesterday. It went on for 45 mins and I had answered close to 17 of the 20 questions that were asked to me. The interviewer also gave a positive kind of response stating that you will have a managerial round after this and then HR. But nothing has happened after that. I tried emailing the HR who had arranged for my interview but I did not receive a response. Any idea about the TCS hiring process or how else can I reach them to kno the results ?

Experienced hire Manager here, informed before Christmas that I’ll be taking another lap but not because of performance (5/5 on scats and all operating at next level) or metrics (22mm in MR) but the only reason is I need more time in the “saddle”… During this time, I’ve been replying to recruiters and after a PPMD interview last week, I was offered an SM role at a smaller firm with a base pay increase of 45% (225k) over my current salary. Very much considering this… thoughts?

Questions to ask before accepting an offer? Switching from Deloitte to KPMG

Best books about product management for a good exit to industry? I already have an MBA and PMP but looking for a refreshed perspective since it’s been years since my formal education.

Currently reading “Product Managements Sacred Seven” but it’s geared toward the startup world. I am in healthcare and not looking for a startup role. TIA!!!

I will be able to start a new job from August. So in about 3 months. Is now too soon to start seriously applying and asking for referrals?

I worry about when they ask when can you join, if it's too far out they might reconsider. Or is this normal?

Starting new job, outside consulting- thank you for your support through the job search!

Not exactly an exit opportunity, but has anyone had their people leader move to a Big Three consultancy and proceed to hire them to their team at that Big Three consultancy (or even generally had this sort of thing happen)? My people leader just announced she was making such a move, and it feels like a great potential opportunity as she has been a champion of mine for at least two years and will need to build out a team in her new role. TIA

Anyone looking to come to Deloitte? Have an opportunity for folks interested in big data, analytics and possibly machine learning. It's hands on development on solving interesting problems in life sciences and healthcare industry. Dm me!

What’s your best clueless recruiter story? First post military job, I had a company really like me and tell me they would offer me in a couple weeks. Three years later they call me up to offer me the role, but in WV instead of Florida, and were shocked I wasn’t willing to leave consulting and that my requested comp had doubled. “But this is a great opportunity!” “If it’s so great why does it pay 35% less than I make now?”

Anybody hiring for healthcare strategy, product marketing, or product development roles? I gotta get out of here. This cant be life.

I have a great opportunity to work for an 8(a) making double my current salary. The opportunity could really launch my career in a direction that I want. Has anyone moved from a large consulting firm to an 8(a)? Pros? Cons? I know the benefits aren’t the same but I’m not too concerned about that.

Been with Deloitte for about a year as a consultant and currently interviewing for a Business Integrity role at Meta. From what I understand, the business integrity role is an internal consulting role for them. I’d like to not have billable hours anymore and more of a WLB but not sure if there any key differences between the two besides that. There is a pay increase but not really concerned about that. Any thoughts on this transition if I am offered?

Hello fishes, is anyone aware of what can be expected in an Amazon assessment (work simulation) for a Sr Program Manager role? Also, will 150K base a reasonable ask for this nontech role? Amazon Amazon Web Services

I’ve interviewed and got offers at just about every place I applied (tops jobs that I actually qualify for), frankly I switch jobs often because I love interviewing and getting the jobs. I’ve done a lot of free helping friends and friends of friends but would love to make some money and help other at the same time by coaching them. Just curious how would people be willing to pay and for what? I’ve thought about maybe a “pay only if hired” approach

I want to exit to MBB but if that’s not a possibility what are the next best consulting firms? Looking for at least midsize firms (non-boutiques).
