Women in this industry are pretty mean. They don't want you to have it any easier than them. Currently in my mid 20s. I've experienced women in even just their 30s feeling threatened by younger female analysts. I've had so many women call me "dear" or "sweetie." And it's not unintentional.
I have had female higher ups tell me they work against girls that they don't like. The girls might be too pretty or they receive too much attention, etc.
Same way with the dudes. It's vicious competition all around, but more obvious within genders because most people are more comfortable competing with the same sex.
I’d take it as a compliment. I had something similar at my previous firm. The president was a woman who told me when I left “good luck out there, you have no track record of closing business”. When it was tough in the beginning I remembered her words and vowed to never let her be right. I’m glad she said that to me and treated me the way she did. Leaving was the beat decision I ever made!
So OP, you're probably pretty and smart. The haters are obviously jealous. In this industry, you have to be perfect to thrive and rise in the sense that u gotta look amazing, be sharp, and have a great attitude. If u are close to having all 3, women will feel threatened.
This industry is full of mean fishies, men and women, more like piranhas. Life is not fair, and just gotta have a really thick skin.

Other male dominated industries are similar. My dad is a partner of a huge law firm and says the other female partners are the one cutting the females associate’s throats. It’s like there are only so many spot for women at the head table and if they have one of those spots they’re afraid they’ll get the boot if they allow another female to take a step forward.
@Stifel, funny, I had a man say, almost word for word, the same thing when I started my own practice several years ago. Still makes me smile...
In my group, they is one women FA and she is not a friendly person to say the least. My first year in production she was very quick to run her mouth about me and even tell a client “ be forewarned he is a rookie advisor “. As I got to know more advisors in my group, I realized that no one really liked her. I used it as motivation and realized there will always be people like this in our business and in life. Stay positive, stay focused on your goals and become friends with successful big producers. I have called on and sat with big producers in my group who have welcomed me with open arms and are always willing to share their time and knowledge.
