OP I was like your partner and I understood deeply it was ruining my relationship, I think what my partner did great was to show his full support and patience. I don't think anyone could have really helped with my situation (not even the therapists) directly other than myself, so please don't blame yourself for this. More frequent and open communication could be good.
he gets incredibly upset with me over little things, to the point of tears. I feel like I try really hard to do things the way he would like them done so I don’t cause any more trouble for him, but never seem to succeed. I’ve tried to ask him to communicate more with me about what he needs but he has said that acknowledging it in the moment and talking about it makes things worse. I’m encouraging him to visit with his psychiatrist but I am not sure what else I can do to be supportive and not damaging. Anyone have advice on what they wish their SO would do for them or what works in your relationship? I feel so discouraged

You probably can’t really do anything beyond what you’re already doing. Especially when his anxiety is bad. I grew up w a family member w similar issues and all you can really do is figure out coping mechanisms for yourself so it doesn’t affect you as much when they’re in that state and wait it out.
