McKinsey & Company Bain & Company Hey everyone -
Not the exact right bowl, but looking for advice/referrals for a close family friend trying to break into ESG/climate change/sustainability consulting.
They have ~7 YOE in finance (mostly junk debt, some S&T) and 20 YOE in development banking at an IGO (think World Bank, doing everything from public debt offerings, infrastructure, etc. all w heavy ESG/compliance requirements).
Thanks for the help!

Sprintax is the closest you’re gonna get to TurboTax for a non resident alien
Rising Star
Sprintax and Glacier tax prep are both good options for this.
TaxAct also offers NR service
Do NOT PAY. You can do it yourself. Please. Google the form. Read the detailed instructions. File. The end. If it’s your first time filing you likely have a simple return anyway.
ZS1 - I have the form and a superficial sense of what I need to do, but I'm also having a hard time figuring out NR tax brackets, terms and considerations for claiming standard deduction, state specific NR tax laws etc. I'm sure I can figure all this out if I keep digging, but I feel like I need to draw a line somewhere. I can always figure this stuff out later by comparing to turbotax or something when I'm filing as a resident.
Related note - does anyone know if I need to and should have the word "apprentice" in my occupation to claim std deduction as a NR?
So I decided to do some research and came up with the following:
You can, in fact, not claim standard deduction as an NR unless you're a student or an intern. You have to do itemized deductions.
Some states, like the one I'm in currently, don't allow you to efile state tax as an NR, and I don't think manually filing is the best option at this time.
Going with Sprintax
