Ugh you guilted me into doing mine. 🙄

Not yet. Still got one more hour to hit the minimum. But I have no motivation.

Does anyone work at a firm that requires weekly or daily time entry? If so, are there any repercussions if you don’t do it?

My previous firm required you to enter your time every 3 days, or else you got a reminder. More than 2 reminders a month and you “lost” 2 hours from your hour count for the year. But I completely disregarded this rule my last year there and learned they didn’t check it either.

My current firm requires you to enter the time weekly. If you don’t, there are no repercussions but you have to write to the CFO, office managing partner or whoever explaining why you didn’t enter your time. This is genius, people enter their time just to avoid begging for forgiveness (I doubt they check these emails, it’s likely their assistant, but the humiliation is still there)

One thing I keep having to remind myself is that career mobility is higher than ever. Have gotten several offers at this point from companies that I "kind of like", and have been holding out for the dream companies. But I should probably just take a solid offer elsewhere. It would give me a foundation to build up skills and experience, and continuously applying for jobs while having a solid job is probably a lot less stressful than needing the perfect job before I graduate my MS degree in 2 mo.

How do I find local attorneys to pair up with on cases? I’m licensed in an absurd number of cases and practice in debt defense/bankruptcy. So far, in all the states except my home state, all I’ve done is debt defense because with the 341s, it’s a little trickier than just sending local counsel. I’d draw up the plan and the attorneys in other states handle the more local aspects such as court appearances. I’m not asking how to get the clients, do a bankruptcy, or ethically split fees. I’ve surpassed my billable target by 200 hours already and I am one of the highest billers (firm is transparent with associate hours). Ive been saying no to all new work—currently staffed on 5 active deals. Two of my deals just went pencils down and the other 3 just signed/filed so I’ll have several quiet weeks before mid December. Am I justified in continuing to say no despite likely billing less than 10 hrs a week or should I take on more work to fill my next several weeks?

Junior associate at a mid-sized reputable law firm that is not strict about hours. I am consistently under hours due to lack of work (goal is 1800, I bill 1200 on average). I did it! I got the got the State to drop murder charges on my client a week before trial!! I took a huge gamble and let him talk to the State and tell his story and they believed him (as I did from pretty much our first meeting...he literally was just along for a ride when things turned bad) I had quite a few staring at the ceiling nights with that decision but it worked. My job as a PD is often thankless but today reminded me why I do it!

What is your opinion on lawyers representing themselves pro se?
