Hi All, need suggestion in choosing new opportunity & role. Currently working as AWS Engineer with 6.5 YOE. Having opportunities: 1. AWS Developer -Deloitte USI - 15fixed + 0-10% Variable + 4LJB (retention bonus) 2. Sr security Analyst - AWS IAM - Sony India software centre - 17.5fixed + 3L Variable. Im very much interested in AWS Developer role but scared of WLB at Deloitte. Sony have a very good reviews and pay also better only concern here it is cloud security and limited to only AWS IAM.

bc we are less likely to get fired as long as we’re billin’…job security is smaller in finance (I say this as my bf is in PE tho so i hope to soon retire)

I guess right on cue, big law increased salaries…these handcuffs are getting heavy…

Real talk: I didn’t have the chops for investment banking or medicine or any of the other well paid professions were always dreaming about.
Understood. For me, I always just thought that wouldn’t be able to handle the math but now further down the line, I find it hard to believe that all these finance people are better at math than me. I’m pretty smart! Those folks just have more confidence I guess and so they make the big big bucks. Oh well.
I literally became a lawyer because I went to a mediocre undergrad that could never get me into IB or PE, not even middle market. I figured cap markets attorney was the closest I’d get. Definitely catch myself day dreaming about being asked to join a fund down the line though.
I went to law school because I was a tree hugging hippie who wanted to save the Earth. But then I saw my student loan bills, and when I was ghosted by every public interest job I ever applied to, I figured biglaw wasn’t looking so bad anymore…. I had no idea what investment banking was when I went to law school. Had no idea about the finance world in general. It was a steep learning curve.

VP comp at 7 figures? Isn’t everyone a VP at a bank?
VP in IB. Most likely bulge bracket. My friend is a VP and didn’t make seven figures, but some colleagues of his did.

A “friend” told me there are a few players in this space atm. Will need to do a market comps analysis. Any volunteers?
Want to add that some VPs were already close to or at 7 figures even before the craziness. If anything, it’s not as crazy as how quickly law firm comp has gone up in the last 2 years
