Finally an easy AF day! I woke up with a stomach flu, can’t keep anything down, got chills and aches….no desire to drink today! Finding that silver lining. Been very nervous about quitting cold turkey. I had a stress breakdown in Feb from overwork that triggered constant chest pains, BP has been dangerously high and not yet under control. Hoping this AF day assuming no heart/BP episodes tonight will give me the confidence to have more AF days each week.

Quitting “cold turkey” comes with some connotations and expectations, which were always counterproductive for me. Cold turkey to me, means no more, ever, from here on out, no matter what. That type of thinking quickly became overwhelming and it was easy for me to slip into the old mindset of “f*ck it” when something bad happened or something good came up.

12-step recovery has been so helpful for me because the mindset is just “one day at a time”. I can’t promise you I’ll never drink again, but I can promise you that I’m going to do my best to not drink today. I’ll worry about the future when the future becomes today. Crazily enough, I’ve used that mindset to not drink for the last 1,500+ days, when in the past, 15 AF days was virtually impossible.

I hope you feel better from your illness, and there’s freedom in getting to the point where we’re “sick and tired of always being sick and tired.”

Also for context, my clinic is 25 mins away from me.

My husband's been smoking for almost 15 years and can't stop. He tried vaping but didn't like various side effects. Any time I bring up him quitting he either ignores me and leaves the house to go smoke or gets angry, screams at me and says I'm not helping him. He did try patches and gum for a day and didn't like them. We've been together for 14 years and are thinking about having a baby. Should I just accept the fact that he will get cancer and die while putting me and our child through pain?

I quit drinking at the first of the year because I was drinking too much as a way to cope with Covid. 99.9% of the time, I’m glad I quit drinking. And then there are those nights when I just want a glass of something to take the edge off, which makes me think alcohol was more of a coping mechanism than I thought and it’s probably a good thing I’m not drinking. I don’t even like wine very much, but I miss that low level buzz that makes everything a little less loud.
