Kudos for deciding to take control. If something is bothering you, change it.
How involved your journey back home will depend on how long have you been here.
Take care of finances before you go.
1. Set up an NRE/NRO account if you don't have one.
2. Consider rolling over 401k to Roth IRA (if 401k is going to attract fees from the account provider).
3. Talk to your bank in US to a. ensure they know of your move and can help take off OTP based authentication, b. change accoubt type to something that does not expect a direct deposit and fhat you have the minimum amount requirednto not incur monthly fees.
4. Lock your credit files.
5. Go through ypur checking and credit card accounts to list down all services you subscribe to and close them off
6. Cancel all insurance and warranty (auto, home, furniture, etc.)
7. Create an excel list of things to do and categorize them into priority buckets. Set deadlines for each bucket. Do a pivot to summarize how many in each category are left off.
There are many more to do, but all good things require hard, don't they? :)
All the best!
Bravo to decide your life's next big move.
May I know what triggered you to take this decision ?
I myself is looking to move out from USA but don't have courage to take this big step.
Moreover my sister at my home country discourages me to come back. She is concerned I might not like back there as I have lived in USA.
Same situation! Wanting to go back but some family members are discouraging it!

Seems to be a bit hasty decision based on how you have written the post. An delay in extension of your H1B should not trigger you leaving US. Think through a plan what you will do going back. If that plan needs time to develop stay here for sometime and get something lined up in your home country. Sometimes sufficient time gives solutions to seemingly stalemate situations. Think about it!!! But I wish you great luck in whatever your undertake
Honestly, in any other country you will have to start all over. And in most places, immigrants are not as appreciated as they do here. With Biden, it should at least stabilize
Hoping things would get better soon...and will not have to go through this hectic process again... I was really hoping things will get better for year to year but it going other way around for immigrants. Hope our children’s will have better future atleast.
WHAT DO I NEED TOR TAKE CARE BEFORE I LEAVE US? Please no silly answers..I will take it once I reach home country :)
