Finally on a local project! ...but have to pay for parking. Definitely thought that was something we could expense at all client sites regardless of location 🤦‍♀️

Client parking? Seems like that’s an expense you wouldn’t occur if you weren’t working at the client. Shouldn’t have to pay.

I think the expense policy at EY is just trash haha

like

Talk to you Project Lead about it. There's policy, then there's what projects will actually pay for it. I have approved things like this many times. I have even approved local resources renting cars on a monthly basis when they didn't have one. There's probably money available for it, so it doesn't hurt to ask.

And thus begins the fun journey of finding out local projects actually suck.

My staff is also local and just got in trouble for expensing the ubers - and they almost made him pay them back. Luckily they showed mercy

Check the expense policy... If it covers parking, set expectations with your ED/M so they’re aware of you hitting the budget (and an estimate of what it might be per month). They may provide a PD code for you to use if local expenses are specifically called out as 0% or minimal in the SOW.

Nope. Out of pocket bro.

Get a monthly parking permit

With EY, you could expense it if you didn't have to pay for parking at the EY office.

Thank you @ATK1 that’s what I thought!! And I don’t pay for parking at the office since I bike or take the bus. Client is a little further away so I drive and park thinking it was fine to expense that

Can’t you just take Uber and bill it to the client? This is normal here.

OP whatever you do just make sure youre very clear about your plan for expenses and get that approved by the engagement team and run it by the finances team. also on a local project with EY and almost got fucked because they said you can be out of policy even if your SM or PPED thinks it's all good and even if your expenses get approved in GT&E

If you would not usually pay for parking commuting to Office, should be expensed. Not part of normal commuting practice

So on a local project, calculate you commuting expenses and subtract what you would pay for your commute to the office... that amount can be expense by policy.

@EY2 i’ve been doing that - since my commute is $0. but apparently since it costs $ to park at the office you can’t get that reimbursed - just the difference

that does not sound correct. Is the client suite very close to the office? If you need to drive to the client but would not drive to the office, you commute should be reimbursable.

Need advice on if there's anything I can or should do in this situation. Was managing a project for 6mo with a Client contact who was a *major* problem. A couple months ago I flagged partner support bc he was being verbally abusive to a young female Dev, so she was rolled off. It also reached the point with me that he was being so combative I could no longer work productively, was rolled off and Partner was supposed to step in to handle him. Cont

What are the most effective ways of answering a question that you know you and your team truly don’t have an answer to during a client call? I’m usually pretty direct in saying something like “We’ll circle back on that, but [insert some insight that you can spin as relating to the question]” One or two other managers iv worked with usually try to give a BS answer and I perceive the client as seeing through the BS, which makes me cringe. Which approach do you usually take?

Do any of you at EY ever have issues actually taking your vacation? Given we work with people across regions on multiple projects at once, who do you ask for approval for longer vacations? I feel like I usually just add it in ARMS and tell people I won’t be there X days. Rarely do I ever get pushback (but rarely do I ever take all my vacation days)

Hi everyone! I recently accepted a new job with a Big 4 and am also newly engaged. I have a couple of concerns… the main one being that I may not have enough time off for 2022 to cover taking off for the wedding, honeymoon, and then a couple of other weddings where I’m supposed to be a bridesmaid. Do you think there would be any wiggle room with managers allowing time off, or is it generally pretty strict? (Continued in comments)

Philosophical question (not trying to be political, just a genuine question I’ve been grappling with): do you think being pro-choice and pro-vax mandate are logically inconsistent? Both are sincere views of mine, but upon further reflection I haven’t been able to think of a way one position could be completely defended without undermining the other. Goes the other way for pro life/against vax mandates as well. The fact is, they just feel different to me, but I’m not sure why. Thoughts?
