I mean...we are close to getting back to normal. Hang in there!

If you've been at this for ten years and were somehow happy, then just grin and bear it for a few more months! Treat the slow down in work like a vacation / sabbatical - that's what I did when I was slow for a few months at the beginning of the pandemic.

I don’t do litigation but was just in a CLE with a bunch of big law lit partners who were saying that it looks like the normal court stuff will be resumed by summer / fall if that makes you feel better. He was also saying generally people don’t like the video so there’s a huge push for it, but some things related to discovery (? Again don’t do lit so idk) might remain on zoom etc

NYC ID attorney here: I anticipate life will go back to semi-normal in 2022. Depositions have been ongoing virtually if you push counsel hard enough, and trials just started up (I already have 3 on my calendar). Discovery should be back late 2021 early 2022. I don’t foresee depositions taking place in person unless absolutely necessary, but I get the billable hours struggle. The light is definitely at the end of the tunnel here! Keep grinding!

also in insurance defense, just a different area of the country, and I felt like you the first six months of covid. There was a measurable shift in how my region adapted and suddenly I was back in deposition all the time (even by zoom), discovery had fired up again, and trials are back on here. I suspect mediations may stay remote, and I'd love if depositions on cases with carriers who don't pay travel stayed Zoom...but things are becoming in person more and more. Hang in there. I also noticed I was able to adapt to more sitting-on-my-keister computer time and I'm actually putting up more hours now. There is light at the end of the tunnel, this purgatory will not last forever.

Disclaimer - not a typical post for this bowl. Wanted to understand more about the mental health services at Google (I already read the high level info on the onboarding portal). I’m starting soon and wanted to ask what Googlers thought of the available resources. My mental health has taken a hit since fall ‘20 - I tried wellness programs through my current employer (counseling and mindfulness) but felt that the providers were more into utilization of the benefit than trying to solve my issues.

Seeking input: I’ve received an offer to join a V50 at market (Class of ‘19, T30). Im currently a boutique where I’m being paid $160k. Despite being told my billables would be 120-150, I’m averaging 200 a month. Partner kind of leaves me to figure things out, and when I inevitably make mistakes, can be very demeaning. Is it a no-brainer to jump ship? Obviously I’ll be making more money for the same (if not less) billable hours. But what are some other considerations?

How do you guys schedule your hours? Say I need to hit 200 hours per month. Currently I take the amount of working days in a month (M-F) and divide it by 200 to get how many hours I need to bill per day. For example, May has 20 working days, so I need to bill 10hrs./day M-F. I’ve done exactly that thus far and have been able to stick to a pretty consistent schedule. But I know a lot work on weekends. For instance, if I worked Saturdays too there are 25 billable days which means 8hrs/day.
