I could fill up my Chevette for $8 and I only made $2 an hour at an ice cream store around the corner where I walked to and from each day I worked.
My students wanted to know why the save button was a floppy disk and were confused when I explained what it was. Sigh...
Hey, a 3-inch floppy disk was nice! I had 5.25-inch floppy disks, much more easily damaged.
I paid $0.75 for a gallon of gas my senior year in high school.
Wow that sounds amazing!!!
I’m so old that my homework copies were made on a mimeograph machine. You had to stand there and continually crank the arm to get the copies. And when the copies were hot off the press, they smelled like a combo of ink and gasoline. Plus, if you were good in class, you got to help make the copies. Ahhhhh….the good ol’ days!! 🤣
and that purple ink permanently stained everything it touched including my 2nd grade teacher's cheek she accidentally touched with the ink on her finger
Yes, I'm that old! I even remember dusting the chalkboard erasers for the teachers. Good kids had all the fun!
I made a joke about “records” and they laughed AT ME. Of course they know what records are.
But when I mentioned “CD-ROM” they looked at me like I was crazy.
My first computer loaded up with DOS from a landline and you heard that obnoxious beeping noise while it was loading.
I'm SO old that I had a rotary phone attached the wall when I was growing up. And if we didn't want to talk to someone, we just took the phone off the hook. 😆
You got me, before my time!! 🥰
It's hard to believe there was ever a time like that. I was talking to my partner about how at on point families were able to buy a house a support everyone of off one middle class income
I'm so old that in the time it took for me to boot up my computer my senior year of college, I could take a shower and get dressed.
Then I had to print out my 85 page thesis on a dot-matrix printer.

Love it! We had to go to a computer lab to use a computer, they were huge and no one had one in their room. I was fancy with my electric typewriter! 🤣
I typed my college papers on a manual typewriter and if I made a mistake I had to use a special small white out paper to insert under the key and retype the mistake to "white out" my mistake. I was not a great typist and made lots of mistakes so it took a long time to write a report.

Absolutely! I used to say the class that prepared me the most for college was my high school typing class. 🤣 We learned on manual typewriters that had caps on the keys so you couldn’t see what letter it was, you had to know by feel.
I'm so old I paid $29/credit hour at an accredited 4-year university.
Wow!! And I thought $45 was a good deal!!
I’m so old that I remember my second-grade teacher crying when the announcement came over the school speaker that Kennedy had been shot. 😢
I had to figure out all my grades using a calculator, no computers. Then fill a scantron of all their grades. We did not have phones in our room either. Do some people remember calling home from college but it was a long-distance charge?
Pro
Absolutely to all! My first grades weren’t even scantron but were most certainly created using a calculator! No phones & no cell phones, I think a “mobile” phone took up half of the trunk! Most of us called home on Sunday evening when the rates were the cheapest, we were charged by the minute, remember?? 😅
I think I have most of you beat - gas cost 23 cents/gallon in my junior year of HS. First job (at McDonald’s) paid $1.25/hr. (Burgers were 15 cents and fries were 12) and UCLA cost $625/year! Tuition only. (Oh, and my parents paid 20k for a 4 bedroom house in LA)

Wow!! How impressive!! ❤️
My freshman year, 16 credits and room and board in the dorms was under $1000 at a land-grant state university (i.e. it was on the quarter system rather than semesters.)
I'm SO old that my father soldered together our first computer from a kit. (By the time I was in high school, we had a different computer, and I was turning in assignments printed on a dot-matrix printer that did not allow the g's to hang below the line. My teachers hated it.)
Impressive! I wasn’t born yet, but a couple years after. 🥰
I'm so old that I used to be able to go the store with one dollar and come out with a full lunch.
My first semester in college was $851 for 15 hours, room & board, and fees.
My daughter got her bill from the same school for her first semester. It came in at just over $10K.
I'm so old my first job working at a local grocery store paid me $3.15/hr, which was the minimum wage at the time.
I used the money to put gas in my '81 Chevy LUV pickup. Extended bed on that bad boy, so the surfboards had a place to ride.

In high school I had an old ‘78 Cutlas Supreme that was so big I called it the boat!
