FIRE seems like the farfetched dream of professionals who grew their career between the overinflated 2010s, never directly experienced a recession, and don't know the cost of kids. Doubt 90% who aspire for it will get there, and a large amount of the 10% who do get there will have to return to work due to economic downfalls

That's may hot take for the night. Don't hate me 😆

FIRE is the misguided idea that it's totally worth living 10 years miserably while working so you can live another 40 years miserably without working...

likesmartfunny

Tbh many of the people I know who actively claim to aspire to it are way more reckless than I am with their money and have less of it as a result, they’re just really fixated on money and talk about it constantly. And tax evasion.

FIRE is a great way for people to get their finances together. I’m about to be job optional in a few months but will continue working to FATfire

Getting to financial independence and retiring early is definitely possible. The FIRE movement isn’t the right way to get there though

McKinsey should probably stick to bluffing clients with fancy PowerPoints. This is real world stuff now.

FIRE is what people used to do all the time. Before employment was considered the universal goal, people worked just to get enough to then live a self-employed life.

Sounds like a excuses to me.

Hi , I am a research engineer , 35 yrs of age with chemical engineering background working in Delhi NCR for an oil and gas company, which is not very promising profile for foreseeable future.

I want to switch to data science and machine learning domain and probably work on solutions within energy sector domain.

Can anybody guide on:
1. Is it a good decision to make a drastic switch at this age and experience?
2. If yes, what are sources I should follow, where do I start?

Thanks every1

Alright so I have been with my partner for several years and recently she said that she wants to get married. Im Happy with what we have now and don't feel the need to get married. Why do people get married? People all around us are getting married and engaged and I feel like that is weighing on her but when we drown all that out and it's just us we are happy!

How ‘locked in’ are you - either electively or contractually - at Partner grade?

I’m going through the Partner process at my firm but am getting really interesting offers from industry that I feel I’d be missing out on.

Part of me thinks ‘make it to Partner first, tick that box, then jump’.

Should you only embark on Partnership if you’re sure it’s what you want to do for the rest of your career?
