Firm gave out a special bonus to all employees but because of how I'm employed, I'm not getting it. My supervisor asked HR if they could make an exception for me but unfortunately not.

Feel very frustrated because I've gone over and beyond (like literally taking on lawyers work to cover for them) what was expected this year and consistently been told how grateful everyone is.

As I'm moving to a new role in a small company, I have a doubt about my salary structure like the Basic salary part is only 20,000 while my take home is 62k after all deductions.

I'm concerned because the leave encashment & other things totally depends on the basic salary.

Any thoughts on when making a lateral move as a mid-level litigation associate will be feasible again? I want to make a change, but (for obvious reasons) I worry firms may not be looking for any more mouths to feed at this time.

My firm has a 9-year partnership track as of a year or two ago. It has grown quickly from 5 to 7 to 9 in the past 10 or so years. In the written document that sets out the criteria for partnership, it basically says that your billable hours need to go up every year. Our minimum is 1900. I’m wondering how normal this increasing billables requirement is? I am torn between thinking it’s sensible and thinking it’s another example of law firms treating associates like machines.

Midlevel Corp NYC big law. Received a mixed bag review during mid-year review. Even positive and negative. My reviews over the years have had peaks and valleys. Worried about consistency. Should I dip or at least start talking to recruiters? Didn’t get an action plan or anything but it was a “developmental message.” Besides obviously internalizing and correcting to get better- thoughts on whether I should start looking?

A founding partner who comes in once a week usually likes when we check in with him and just chat for a couple of minutes. During my conversation with the partner he asked me about what I think about X political figure (on topic because it was during the midterm chaos). I took as harmless but curious on peoples thoughts on partners asking about their associates political beliefs.

PLEASE HELP! I’m a first year commercial litigation associate at a boutique firm. I am deciding between two offers. One is to go in-house paying roughly the same as I make now. The second offer is from big law as a commercial real estate associate, paying double.

I would love to go in-house and never worry about billable hours again but the big law money is super tempting. Advice?? Is the money really worth it?

1st year associate (NY) thinking about lateraling into a large insurance defense firm from Municipal work/L&E, pay jump 75 to 125 and hybrid as opposed to fully in office. Basically is the pay jump/hybrid worth giving up current practice area to ID? If it turns out I hate ID, thoughts on leveraging the litigation experience and substantive knowledge of L&E to then lateral again within 2 years?
