Interesting. People always say this won’t happen if you negotiate. Just goes to show that if someone is in a tough spot and they accept something below market, there is a risk pushing back. That being said it sounds like this place does not like people pushing back or advocating for themselves. That “you’re lucky to be here” attitude. You’ll find a better team somewhere else.
That response is BS. You are being interviewed for a job, not an intramural sports team where you get a $20 allowance for beer after the game.
I’d say u dodged a bullet!! Out of curiosity why was offer under market in your opinion? Was it a big shop or more small / boutique?
Will share over dm. Too sensitive to share publicly
Sounds like you dodged a bullet.
This was a dream opportunity for me but was shocked they were so resistant to budging on anything
Also feel free to name drop the firm. From my understanding most, if not ALL firms give an offer and EXPECT to have you come back with a number. What’s the point of settling if I could be under marker? I think it’s good to be assertive and show that you believe in yourself and your work by asking for more.
Lol I wish I could drop the name. World is too small sadly
These guys are a joke. Wouldn’t worry about it. If you can land the job once, you can land it again somewhere else.
Always negotiate. Not only will you make more, but it reveals information about your counterparty.
Thank you. I agree. They have a great rep so hard to reconcile my experience with their reputation.
Dodged a bullet. Remember, when you’re in the interview phase, that is the BEST THEY WILL EVER TREAT YOU.
They’re trying to win you over, and get you on their team. You think they’re gonna treat you any better when you’re a captive W-2? Don’t bet on it. What are you gonna do, quit your “dream job” after 2mos and have to explain that the rest of your career? You’ll be stuck there at least a year.
I know it might not seem like it now, but a place that pulls stuff like that (assuming you were tactful) shouldn’t be anyone’s dream job.
Hard to say - how much of a difference were you negotiating on? Was there one or ten exchanges about it?
Either way, it’s pretty a crappy situation, but validation that you’re good enough to get in. Best of luck on the next gig
Can you share the firm name?
Dodged. A. Bullet.
