MBA interns are a dime a dozen.
It’s not about choosing over MBB and big 4. It’s about the perception of the company in the market place for talent. Of course anyone would rather go to MBB over big 4, but when the salaries are the same, people are more likely to join a big 4.
The reasoning is that a lot of people look at consulting post MBA as a 2 year thing. When salaries/bonuses are the same, then the calculus for joining a big 4 becomes “ill make the same in my first year and a little less in my second year” and then you peace out so no harm. When the salaries are also less by 20k in a big 4 vs an MBB, it makes taking the big 4 job much harder because it’s clear that you are a second class consultant. That’s how I view it really. You might as well take tech roles which are easier to get than MBB.
Not asking about losing interns to MBB (I’m sure very few people turn them down), but losing them to other peers in consulting.
