Hello! Is anyone working at Spotify or HubSpot within product/project management that would be willing to connect for a virtual coffee chat?
I’m a recent grad and currently working in tech/product development. I have been interested in growing my career at either of these companies and would be grateful to gain insight on day-to-day and steps you took to successfully break in.
I know this might be a big ask here, but it’s been difficult trying to land one on LinkedIn. Thanks in advance
Move now. You can’t change the culture, so stating is a waste of time
Thanks for the comment. Sent the first couple of applications last night.
I’d say “Move” unless you have other motives like learning , gaining experience etc. Government has its own culture that you can’t change. Moreover private sector is reluctant to hire once you’ve worked long in Public sector because then one gets used to that culture. Private sector is cut throat, lots of challenges and learning opportunities where as public gives you security and comfort, so really it boils down to what you are looking for and what are your long term goals!
That’s also one of the concerns. Been in the private sector (change/project management) in a large tech company 6 years before making the move and would rather not having to face this during recruitment.
Also a lesson for everyone. Before you take any job , ask are they hiring, what happened to the previous person . You can’t change culture as a PM . Only top dogs can initiate corporate culture change .
Good advice and a standard question I ask in interviews. In this case the entire PM function didn’t exist and we all joined as new hires (other than the SLT seat).
PMs were great mentors before they jumped ship due to culture and red tape by SLT.
