Why does it matter? Fucking own it. Be thankful you have a MALE manager that knows his PLACE and directed the question back to his FEMALE director. It's the world we live in, let your actions and capability determine their view on you. Just because you're a director, doesn't mean you should get deference, perhaps this is a sign you show work on your executive presence.

Inb4 "sexist" because client didn't address and OP is female.

like

Wtf to the client right? Sounds like the manager reacted appropriately

like

Asks a question about our plan moving forward. Colleague speaks up as I let It sit and says awkwardly "interesting question, Jessica you want to start". He's a manager. I'm the director. Wtf...

Plot twist. Client lead was a woman

Sorry for the typos... if my team reads this ❤️️ you guys.. get off FB and go back to work

Meh EY1 it's a little more complex than that. This a tough business for women. That may make me sound like a snowflake or even reverse sexism, but frankly I don't care. I've been in consulting since I graduated undergrad almost 10 years ago. 10 years from SA to D, where I've seen plenty of others, male and female flake. I've been the victim of sexual harassment, things I've had to file and ones I've let go. I've raised a family where I spend 4 nights a week and sometimes more away from children and husband. But I chose this life and I understand how to the play the game. I am not ignorant to the ways of our world. But what I can't stand for are women who have been on the same path I have, have faced the same trials and tribulations that I have, and have forgotten where they came from. It's a simple message to my ladies in management. Be fair, be confident and don't forget the path you've been on.

like

I feel like people on FB are surprised that people are sexist, just because you are "woke" doesn't mean everyone else is...

like

You should definitely let this ruin the rest of your day.

like

EY1 yes! As a female, I have had men and women clients defer to me because I have executive presence even though I may be a level or two lower. Hold yourself and don't let the little stuff get to you like this. I'd rather have someone direct a question to a team member or myself and we gracefully do what your manager did. Shows we control the situation and that we don't get flustered and we work as a unit.

like

As a female..... F off. This doesn't even begin to register in the world of unhappy things.

Okay, I will agree that's a stinker move. But I have to ask one question for clarification: any chance you have a gender ambiguous name and she got confused after seeing emails (Kris, Jamie, Morgan, etc)?
