Your bargaining power over that offer is long gone. Best thing you can do is make your case on your impact to the firm.
As a first year associate your best bet for big bumps in pay are movement between firms and promotion
You’re already in the seat. Why should they pay you more?... use metrics to prove your point.
agree with the above. we don’t talk about it openly but most pay systems are designed to norm everyone to the middle. while i definitely wouldn’t mention how you accepted their lesser offer, you should reference what you’ve accomplished and how that’s created VALUE above and beyond what you’re being paid. you are paid in proportion to the value you generate and the difficulty of the problems you solve. you don’t get paid more just because you’ve been there a year and they should make up for lowballing you. and if you make a good case and don’t get what you think you should, be prepared to talk with your feet and leave.
