First review is coming up. Tips for survival? I fully expect it to be terrible. I am not happy here, I never have been, I don't want that to come across in the review, and I just want to make it out of the meeting with a small amount of grace. My plan is to just nod along and say thanks, will work on. I am also insanely busy right now and this is the last thing I want to deal with.

sounds like your churning out hours, I’d be shocked if it was an overtly negative review

It sounds like you are working extremely hard, and they need to hire more junior attorneys. If you are getting hostile feedback when asking for help, but still out billing your peers/supervisors, it sounds like they are giving you more work than is possible for a single person. I would suggest keep your head held high during the review, take everything with a grain of salt, and start planning an exit strategy for a firm with more appropriate staffing.

If they give you negative feedback be visible in accepting it and vowing to do better, you want to give yourself as much runway as possible to find your next role

Car theft is on rise in my area. I want to put safeguards in my car like gps tracker or anything that's available commercially. I heard phone companies have something that uses their cellphone towers to keep track. Any suggestions on gps trackers or other brand products. Car dealerships are having wait times of 5-6 months for new cars so any theft would create lot of trouble for our young family.

I had an assistant in another office of my firm help with a big filing. It required the assistant to work past midnight on a Friday to get everything out. I’m extremely appreciative that this assistant went above and beyond to get this done, and a thank you email (already sent) seems insufficient. I think I should get this assistant a gift. Money/gift card feels practical but impersonal. Maybe a nice bottle of wine? Looking for guidance on what to get/how much to spend.

What’s the day-to-day like for a BTS tax consultant at Deloitte? I received a verbal offer for a tax consultant position but after one of my rounds, I became weary in regard to whether this position was right for me. One of my interviewers made the work seem mostly automated and said that 99% of my job would be reviewing and not preparing; while another interviewer made the work seem like it would be similar to what I’m doing now. Can someone tell me what tax staffs do day-to-day/in busy season?

Advice re: office crush

I’m a junior and he’s a senior in the same group with ~20 people. He doesn’t supervise me, but we aren’t at our largest office, so we might still bump into each other awkwardly if things go wrong. We are both single.

I’ve been holding my feelings back hard. (He still invites me to group/office outings, so pretty sure he senses nothing weird.) I know it’s hard to find someone like him though, and I wonder if I really should just silently kill my feelings for him?

What’s better? Being an M&A partner at a firm with PPP of $4-6M or PPP of $1-2M? Just thinking $1-2M is already plenty of money so if there’s some recovery of work/life balance as compared to the $4-6M PPP firms, which I assume would be the case, then I’d be drawn more to partnership at the $1-2M PPP firms. Any thoughts? Prefer my marriage over prestige
