If you’re not getting paid hourly, make sure you go in knowing what constitutes a ‘day’ or a ‘week’ (is your day 8 hours? 10 hours? Unlimited hours with no overtime, etc)

- what markup on my “on staff” salary to ask for to cover fact that I’ll have to deal with taxes, healthcare etc

You don’t need to tuck away any money for taxes. They are almost certainly trying to hire you over W2 still, so your taxes will be taken out normally. Only difference is you get a day rate vs. an annual salary and have less job security. I get 2x more money freelancing than j did full time. Ask people at your level what a fair day rate is
