Congratulations!! Figure out childcare. Daycares can have waitlists so start looking around, doing tours, and putting your name down if that’s the route you want to go down.

This is definitely on my near term list!! Thank you!

This is a great point, thank you. I’m assuming you mean something like - don’t immediately buy a bunch of nonsense you probably don’t need - but can you elaborate on how this plays out/played out for you specifically?

Order some books! What to Expect (or better yet Expecting Better), Bringing up Babe, Cribsheet. And start a Pinterest for nursery ideas.

love cribsheet!

Great advice already. Think about what kind of birth plan would you like to have. We took a 12 week bradley method class so needed time to prepare. We plan and the universe laughs but still, having a plan is good. And one thing I wish I did more of since I got pregnant with my first child is …. breathe. If you can get into a meditation practice I’d highly recommend it. Once part of your routine will be easier to keep up with when things get busier. Just breath, take it one day at a time. Congratulations and best of luck.

Figured out childcare and figured out baby names. Otherwise did nothing until the 3rd trimester. Pregnancy is a long 40 weeks so don’t burn yourself out too early. Congrats :)

The “what to expect” app has birth groups and also type your birth month/year into Facebook and there should be a group.

Create your registry before you buy. Your family, friends, and possibly coworkers might get you more than you expect. Mentally prepare yourself for labor and having a newborn. Learn the stages of labor and what to expect. Relax and watch some tv or do any activities you like to do for yourself because it will be hard to do those things for a while after baby. Sleep!

Eat well, sleep well, move daily even when you don’t want to, 2nd trimester sex is the best, take the pictures of you Preggo. Even if it was rough, years later you’ll be happy you did.

Another thought- you don’t have to kill yourself with fitness to recover well either. I got 8-10k steps a day, and a weekly kickboxing, weight class or similar in and my c section recovery was better than I expected and better than my girlfriends, even a few who had vaginal deliveries.

Congratulations! Agree to all advice here but also, take it one day at a time. It’s easy to get overwhelmed. Enjoy the pregnancy - this is the closest your baby will ever be to you!

Congratulations! 🎉 Get the books. Get daily long walks and sunlight. Get a spa day, nails, massage. Watch 'Babies' on Netflix. Get the pregnancy leggings and a few clothes. Don't wait till you get uncomfortable in your jeans to buy them, you'll get enough wear and tear in the year+ going forward. Get some rest. Not sure how far along you are, but some moms get nausea from week 10 onwards. My heartburn throughout almost killed me it was so bad.

Congratulations! We started buying ALL sizes of diapers. Would pick up one pack while at the store. It may sound strange or unimportant, but you're going to want and need all those diapers. Plus it helped offset some of the sticker shock too.

Congrats! Figure out childcare, and go through your skin care to make sure ingredients are baby safe.

I spent the first trimester really just reading, researching / making a registry and visiting childcare options. Check your states Department of Health & Human Services site for audits / reports on childcare centers and join local mom groups on FB to get a feel for the best options, then visit your top 3-5 choices. Second trimester I focused on the nursery and buying a few non-registry items. Meet with a pediatrician or two. Third trimester was all about relaxing, reading parenting books (Healthiest Baby on the Block and Babywise were my faves for infants), and final prep!! Try not to feel overwhelmed, it’s plenty of time and so much fun 🤩

Will add I’m on my second pregnancy now and haven’t done a thing yet 😅 was way more sick this time around from weeks 6-16. Enjoy the energy while you have it and yes, getting in a good exercise routine (even just walks or yoga) is key!

Congratulations! I think you’ve received some excellent advice already, so I’ll just note this: Enjoy it. Savor it. Every single day. It flies by so quickly! Also, it’s ok if you don’t have everything figured it. It’ll all come naturally to you. Follow those motherly instincts.

My biggest surprise was the hospital experience. I did birth classes etc but didn’t understand the role of the midwives, how it would all work etc. speak to some local friends if possible to get a rundown. Also pack lots of pairs of big, black, comfy undies (period undies are great) :)

This is your body and your baby so you should feel very confident and secure with your entire support team. If you aren't vibing with your OB/midwife, switch! If your partner is a ball of stress, hire a doula. If your sister or mother make you self conscious, don't invite them to the birth.

Has anyone here gotten pregnant with someone they were dating vs married to? Can you share your experience? Is that still frowned upon in 2022? I know culture also comes into play for some. Even though it seems we are more progressive now - none of my friends had kids before marriage. Especially those with professional careers etc. It seems like the whole first comes love then comes marriage and baby thing is still standard. Does it really have to be though? Especially if you're in your 30s.

My 22 month old son has been extremely violent recently, mostly towards his father. He bites, scratches and hits my husband a lot, often unwarranted, and once in a while, does the same to me. He is also very aggressively shaking his head back and forth when he doesn’t want to eat anymore and swipes food away that he doesn’t want. It’s pretty monstrous. Not sure if this is normal for his age or if we should start looking at behavioral therapists.

Mamas with more than one kid, what’s the age gap between your children? And now that you’ve experienced it, do you think a different age gap would have been better? I had my first a few months ago, and while I was sure I’d be one and done, the maternal feeling is now on overdrive 🙃 I’m wondering what would be a good time to try for a second. I am 38, and the first baby came after two miscarriages so my chances are not great (especially chances of a planned age gap) But it doesn’t hurt to hope 😊

She never gets one-on-one time with me as it is since her sister (now 2) is still super glued to my side. Any suggestions for juggling this? Or to ease the mom guilt?
