How are the Verizon projects in Brillio?
Hello, I have received an offer from Southwest Airlines as a Associate Technology Analyst with their direct college hire program. Will be graduating in May with a degree in MIS and also have internships experience as a Business Systems analyst intern. The salary compensation started off at 66,500 but was looking for the 75k range and they got back to me saying the best they can do is 68,500. They also have a 401k company match up to 9.3%. Do you think this is a solid offer for this job market?
Starting to feel like spring!

More pleasant? Ask to stay in a hotel. 3.5hours is a crazy commute
Don’t do that commute daily unless you have to or just really want to be home
This is a useless comment but can you ask them for a hotel?
Ride 1st class. You can work the whole time and they serve wine.
Stay wherever you are traveling to...
Assuming you are traveling on Amtrak, if you book tickets early enough first/business can be very cheap. Fares are usually cancelable/refundable so not much of a downside to booking early (unless things have changed recently - I haven’t done a train commute in a couple of years). Don’t underestimate how delayed Amtrak trains can be, often for no good reason. Take the Acela when you can. Definitely stay at a hotel. Amtrak WiFi sucks too so don’t count on for getting work done, make sure you have a MiFi or can tether.
Sometimes it’s another train that has priority and needs to pass, sometimes that reason is that your train or the train ahead of you killed someone on the tracks and police are investigating. Can be 10 minutes - can be 3 hours.
3.5 hours is insane.
Just to be clear the team didn’t push this hard- it was just proposed as an option and I’m thinking thru what makes sense :) thanks fish fam!
Last thought: mix it up. Stay at a hotel on Tues and Wed night and work from home on Friday. That can make a huge difference.
Good luck
I am a partner and unless you are heading home at 5, that level of commute is insane unless you are calibrated to enjoy a moving office as much as a stationary one.
Probably saying leadership understands 3.5 hours daily commute is not sustainable?
That’s not sustainable
Uhh guys... they’re not budget constrained. This is OPs choice for sure. No, most of us would do the hotel.
I find the train to be more pleasant that plane travel. Also, never heard a team recommending someone to travel back home 3.5 hours a day. I was a 1.5 hour train ride away and the thought of going home daily didn’t even cross my mind
